ok , so im out in the driveway hacking up my air can, something ive put off for far too long. i got inside to get some more cutting discs for my dremel, and come outside again to find my neighbours kid holdin gmy mas in one hand and the tinfoil like honeycomb from it in the other!!! i didnt get mad as hes only like 4 lol. anyways needless to say he mangle dit enough tha ti cant ge tit back in the mas, and now the car idles a little wierd, surges sometimes. and when cruising it kinda feels like im hydroplaning? im thinking tha tthe honeycomb thing was meant to make the air coming into the mas uniform so the mas could "count" it?? what are my options for fixing this other than gettin a new mas?? which i assume is NOT cheap...and driving it as is bad for the car?? i really really dont want to ruin anything. thanks for any help!!

If you have SAFC try to compensate with extra fuel for the extra fuel.. go on ebay and get a used MAF for 80-100 bucks.

Unfortunately I have some experience with 1G and 2G turbo MAFs (mas) and could answer the question for those but I have no experience with the non-turbo MAFs frown .

Are there 2 sections (2 honeycombs) for the non-turbo mas? If so which was removed?

The honeycombs are for straightening the air. The air has to be fairly straight in order to get a proper Karmen Votrex Street. It's these vortecies that are counted.

In some MAFs there are 2 honeycombs going to 2 different sections. Of those 2 sections only one is metered the other is not metered and just bypasses air. A honeycomb to a non-metered section can usually be removed with the only result being a slightly leaner a/f ratio (like the lower one on a 1G turbo MAF). Not always though, sometimes it lets too much air bypass the metered section and the vortex street breaks down at idle.

Might want to call some junkyards.

I wouldn't recommend removing the metered section honeycomb on any model though.

I've got a 92 non turbo mas (MAF) sitting at my parents house if you want it. I will let it go really cheap as I am not using it at all and never plan to.

Pm me if you want.

well it was the lower one that does straighten the air, so i went looking for a new one and found someone locally who will sell me the whole aircan/mas for 20bux, good deal right?? so im gonna pick that up from him, and the bonus of have 2 air cans is i can take my slightly choppe done out of the car, and run the stock one while i chop the living hell out of the old one laugh , yea i did read about taking the other honeycomb out of the top "non-metered" portion of the mafs, dunno if ill try it as u said its meant for straightening out the air, it cant cause that much air restriction. also if anyone has an intake tube for a 1G non turbo im looking for one laugh , me thinks the original rubber tube doesnt flow air too well

you have two honey comb sections?

my NT has one and the by pass has no honey comb. But either way... I am not sure what you gain from hacking other than making it a bit leaner.

yes my N/T car has only one honeycomb in its MAF as well.

I'd just take the $20 deal as long as that maf is good. As to install it in your car and at least start it first, see if it runs well and doesn't throw a code.

when you are hacking your aircan, please remember that cold air makes power. COLD air, not just lots of warm air.
