My friends 1992 Talon Tsi AWD oil light and he asked me to check it out and I saw the dipstick was popped so I thought that was the problem. We filled the engine back up with oil and I told him to turn on the car and then a second later i noticed oil flowing through my feet at the front of the car. So I jack up the driver side and notice the oil filter was a little loose too.. I tightened it and told him to turn on the car and then I saw more oil spew out somewhere above where the oil filter is. Im just wondering if there is anything else thats simple in that area that I could check, like a loose hose or something. Otherwise Ill just tell him to take it to someone who is actually a mechanic. Thanks for any help

I notice its a 92 which means it had the water to air oil cooler. There is a seal there on the housing, check that out and see if its there or raptured. I have a 95 Talon and I remember that big o-ring ripped and oil just spewed from it. First I thought it was my oil filter, but it ended up being that O-ring.

Also, check the Oil Filter housing. The bolt that the oil filter screws on to, may have come loose. You will have to drain the oil and tighten that.

Check the oil filter housing-to-block seal, as that may have cracked also.

I think I have found the problem. I pulled the oil filter off and the gasket on it was all screwed up and I think that oil filter housing bolt the oil filter screws onto was a little bit loose. I wanted to know if theres a torque specification for that oil filter housing bolt and possibly what size rachet it needs because I need to go and get one. Thanks

I do believe it's a 17mm deep socket.

Ok the 17mm rachet must be for the later 92 talon because it was too small.. He has the early model 92 talon with the fatter oil filter. Does anyone know the rachet measurement for that one?

Try a 23mm socket.
You could use a caliper to measure if you want to be sure. $1 at the dollar store tongue
