Leaving work I saw this nice red and black mustang heading the same way I go home... He caught a red up ahead so I managed to catch up... Gave him a little BOV salute to grab his attention... turns out it was a Mach 1 stang. He did a nice flyby on me to let me hear that V8 open up... I caught back up and sped by him, that certainly grabbed his attention. He's ahead of me at the next light and were both turning right... he opens it up around the corner and lays a nice patch and goes sideways into the next lane... WHOAA thing sounds NICE!!! I proceed to catch back up and give hime the thumbs up, he does the same... He made sure before we parted ways I heard his V8 snap open one last time with a 3-2 downshift to WOT... One thing is forsure nothing sounds nicer than a wide open v8 with pipes, I almost started drooling...
This isn't a kill story or nothing but it shows we can get along with the Mustang boys, we gave eachother the mutual respect and were on our way, I think I left him impressed as my car looks bone stock but moves much better than that.

edit.. I just looked up the specs, 300ish HP, and 13.7 in the QM not thaaat impressive...

We have a few Mustang dip**** around here. I spanked a few of them which I think was nothing big.

One buy that works for me has a 2005 GT with 300hp. He only had problem with the thing. Good head turner but still a ****stang.

Ghislain.

Hey Nigel, my buddy ryan went 12.9@109 in a bonestock MACH no K&N or anything... he added a K&N FIPK and a 4:30 gear and went 12.6@109

The only guys who go mid 13's cannot drive.

And Ghislain, with that attitude, I'd love to see your talon pullbeside my mustang. If your talon was fast, you likely wouldn't have an attitude like that towards mustangs.

Yeah, Ghislain, as much as you may not like the mustangs. You've gotta have some respect for them. The 5.0 especially. Yeah, the numbers from the factory may not be too impressive. but they take mods VERY respectfully. And 1/4 times mean **** in town. Have you ever opened up a punched out 5.0 doing 50km/h and laid a 100ft patch? To me thats just as impressive as a modified talons 60ft time. The powerband in a SOHC, or OHV domestic v8 is the complete opposite of our Talons. We rely on high rpm to spool our turbos and make big hp numbers. So when you have good traction for launching and a good top end powerband you are obviously going to make decent 1/4 times. In a domestic V8 You are going to shine in the mid range of the powerband. Where your torque maxes out. In my opinion done up v8s actually hit a higher peak acceleration and g-force than our cars, it just doesnt seem to last incredibly long. And It isnt easy to launch a car with RWD and 350+ ft lbs. of tq.

I don't understand why people hate mustangs or other cars so much??
Mustangs have the largest after market support. They are a good performance car out of the box, and lots of guys that have highly moded Mustangs drive Talons awd for winter cars.

Everyone just stop talking s*** about other cars because one day you will run into a fast Mustang or Camaro and after it beats you, what are you going to do then? I will tell you what GIVE THEM THE THUMBS UP. Be a good sport.

*Throwing Ghislan his sword and drawing his own axe, Nathan prepares to enlighten the heathens with the sharpe edge of truth; swiftly the dsm duo dispatches the heretics, as no man can stand before the truth and power of BOOST*

Guys guys guys. We all know there are always other faster cars out there, just like there might be better looking women than the ones we might be with at the moment.

Ghis is not some youngblood that just got his dsm fresh out of the cherrio box, he knows they can be fast and was just letting us know that theres some poopstangs up in Kingston. A poopstang can still be fast, but it can't get out from under the umbrella of the pooptree.

People that take derogetory comments towards their method of mass acceleration personally need to step back and be comfortable and secure in the car they are driving, and failing that seek counselling for some de-personalization lessons.

I respect Mustangs 100%, I am thinking of getting one myself lol. Specially after a 03 Cobra kicked my ass on the highway.

Well since I have both v8 musclecars and the 97 talon guess am qualified to say a few things.
Up till a few years ago really didnt' think much of the imports.Had musclecars for over 30 years first car was a 77 6.6 litre bandit trans am.
Had lots of fast stuff thru the years always v8s.
Had one mustang an inline v6.Had a crown victoria cop car.Have a ford taurus now that sort of inherited but can't sell as its in my dads name.
I like v8s but I DON'T like Fords! The six inline mustang was scary to drive ,it would 360 on the slightest bit of slippery road.It must have had the worst weight distribution or something.
The crown vic engine went and they wanted like 10,000 for that 4.6.I got lucky and found one for like 2000 at wreckers. Was ready to sink the car in the lake. And the ford tranny in that car was pathetic.Pathetic..ford has always made some pretty bad trannies. For years and years in their vans and aerostar vans, tauruses etc.And the t5s in the 5.0s are not so good either.
My 99 taurus is already showing the signs of tranny death and its got 60,000km on it.
Also it lost the power steering recently. They changed out the pump, then the rack, they some 400 dollar weird ford power steering line and now its not working again and no one can figure it out.not even ford!
I will say this. They do run pretty good,my gms are usually touchy for weather and temp and stuff but the ford power is always the same.
They are usually not very good to work on.The 5.0 were not bad but the 4.6 is not fun at all.
So while I said I don't like fords I never said don't respect them. The supercharged cobras are very fast, the old 5.0 were not called 5.0 slows for nothing but with lots of mods most pretty cheap they do ok.
The new stangs are nice looking for sure and decently fast and we have a few machs running at our track that are decent but none that touch 12.9 at 109 stock..We don't have any ls1 doing 12.9 at that mph stock either but we are at 1900 ft above sealevel and that hurts times about 3 tenths and 3mph. The machs seem a bit weaker than our clubs ls1s usually and about on par with the lt1s stock for stock.
But they can wake up with some gears for sure.
I will likely never own another ford and would trade the taurus in on a 2000 or so GTP coupe but I dont' have title on it.
And v8 power is nice but not unbeatable of course.
But remember while our turbo cars can be crazy fast especially for a 4 banger a turbo v8 can put out over 1000hp..
In fact after finish up the 97 mostly this year with the FP3065 just ordered plan on doing up my 99 transam with a nice big hairdryer or twin hairdryers..
Buddy has a wicked 96 z28 vert like mine but with sts rear turbo kit on there.I have raced him in my 96z and his car was quite fast.Need a rematch in my 97 this time around but he has upped his boost and stuff too ,might be interesting.
That new mustang gt 500 will be very fast and looks great..And I give kudos to ford for supporting and actually advertising their mustang.Gm marketing is usually pathetic.
And just to be clear my next planned buy in three to five years is likely a c6 or c6 z06.I still plan on keeping my talon,my 99 and the 96z28 which is wifes car technically.
I even have an 80 trans am with 6.6 litre just like had back in 78.
Yes I have too many cars..
And if you want to talk slow most of the imports are very slow..non turbo hondas and toyotas and all that..
But they did make some great imports in the early 90s..the twin turbo supras,rx7s and 300zxs.And the new stuff like the 350z ,new eclipse gt are also very nice.

1997 TALON AWD ,fully built 2.4,FP3065.

99TAWS6 427 Twin turbo,91 TALON race car,08 Z06.

I know where some people are coming from when they talk about guys with mustangs. I have meet a few of the older 5.0 some with the usual bolt ons and some with extras like internals & have yet to fall victim to one (not to say I wont as obviously there will be alot out there that are much faster then me) but when you do pull up beside them, its not uncommon for them to give you the WTF are you thinking face, & you don't stand a chance. The look on their face when you pull many car lengths is pricless. Then again they've always been good sports and gave me the tumbs up when I slow down to let them catch up. One of my buddies also had a 97 SVT cobra with quite a few bolt on mods & was pretty quick but I could pull him from a stop or rolling as well. I can say they are getting some nice power in the recent years. My old man had one of the 5.0 GT's, and back in the day they were quick but compared to the power their putting in the new cars their over weight & under powered. Not to say they can't be fast as theirs no replacement for displacement (well until you talk forced induction), their just nothing special from the factory. But then again are cars weren't all special or fast from the factory either.

The local boys around here even admit, "It's just a Mustang..." (: I've seen some of them with $30k put into them, and they don't get a lot quicker. They'll pull on most DSMs at speed (I got walked by one with a Windsor motor, but I wasn't all that fast) but the AWD and power we have usually defeats them.

You can't beat a Mustang for cheap, tossable fun though. (:

Its not about who is faster really. I have beat mustangs and a few modified mustangs have beat me but all the races were fun with big grins on both sides and some disbelief from those who didnt know what a Talon was back in the early days.

Generally the "Mustang" guys have fun with their cars. Along with a reasonable price, lots of parts both used and aftermarket and not too hard to wrench on for weekend mechanic. There is nothing like the exhaust note, rumble and a$$-planting torque of a big v8. Mustangs are what kept boy racers happy before imports and DSM's so respect your elders. Not my personal preference but have driven Mustangs and Camaros on the street/track and had a blast.

the way I see it, if someone mods thier car and its faster than when it came out of the showroom, good for them.

If its quite a bit faster, well great! I love it!

The only thing I don't like is when someone won't respect your car for whatever reason. Pushrod guys sometimes have an attitude that unless it has huge cubes it MUST be slow. Turbo guys think they can take anyone without one. And VTEC guys must be able to beat anything else too. Not ALL people fall into these groups, just the ones that do ruin the fun for everyone.

best is when one of those guys looses to one of the others and HAS to admit, at least to themself, that thier(cubes, forced, vtec, n2o or whatever)lost to something without it.
