I think I might of experienced some [Linked Image] What exactly happens during crankwalk? Well, I'll tell you what happened to me. I turned left at a light and mashed down the throttle comming out of the turn! I don't have a boost/vacum gauge yet so I can't tell if I'm leaking boost somewhere. But the stock boost gauge pracically maxed out and it Revved to 6500 but I had no power. I let off the gas and about 3-5 seconds later everything seemed alright. I hope it wasn't a sign...

The rpms climbed to 6500 and you werent moving? Could it be a slipping clutch?

For crankwalk try turning left and pushing your clutch in, if it doesnt come up its most likely crankwalk.

Yeah, the clutch staying down near the floor after a hard left turn is *the* classic symptom of crankwalk.

I suppose it could be a slipping clutch, or simply that you simply didn't allow the pedal time to come back up before hitting the gas (damn clutch restrictor). If neither of these are the case, then my guess would be the dreaded crankwalk. [Linked Image]

You might want to take it to Marco for a look over.

Clutch popped back up restrictor is removed. But I wonder if it could be slipping.

Hopefully that's all it is then.

See if you can get up to 100 KM/H in 2nd gear (at redline obviously) and make some 3rd and 4th gear passes on the highway and see if your revs jump without the associated speed increase.

Ian,

What you are describing does not sound like crankwalk. The left turn clutch test is good advice.

There are several posts on the DSM board with the same symptoms as you describe. If it is not your clutch slipping then you may want to consider the following:

1) You have a faulty or dying alternator. When mine started going south, the ignition power would be forced to come from the battery. The symptoms were, as you described: Full boost, Rich on the A/F meter, and a somewhat subdued climb in the RPMs ... kind of like I had bad gas or a slow car. Eventually the Atlernator failed - which shorted out the battery. So check your alternator.

2) The other possibility is that your knock-sensor is faulty and is dedecting abnormally high amounts of knock in the combustion chamber. The knock sensor is very sensitive and can start to detect and interpret different vibrations as knock. This only happends if the sensor has been overly torqued into its socket or if it has been moved or disturbed in anyway to through it outside of spec. The knock-sensor does not usually fail but it has been known to happen in some cases. The symptoms are the same where you step on the gas, you get boost, but the car just does not seem to have power.

So it sounds like you have a few things to look at. Dave, Jeremy, and Mitch have given you good info/advice.

Graham
