Hi All,

So I trimmed back down the KYB AGX's down to 1's (softest setting) for the winter... I'm now getting a clunking noise from the front and occasionally from the rear as well (the front makes more noise than the rear does) when I accelerate from a standing start....

I'm thinking that the end links on the sway-bars are going.... would this be a correct assessment?

Regards
Glenn

Hello.

Their's lots of things that can cause a Clunck.

I had a Similar Clunking noise to my Car. I first replaced the Sway Bar Bushings as they were pretty bad. It did not fix the problem. Also replaced the Fron Control Arm Bushing, no change.

I then replaced the Sub Frame Mount Bushings and Stiffen the Motor Mounts using some Sealant (Similar to using the Window Urethane). Retorqued everything to specs. Clunk was gone.

Start by looking at your Front Control Arm, SubFrame Bolts and Engine Mounts for any looseness or damage. Sway Bar can also cause a Clunk but was not the cause of my problem.

Hope this helps.

Ghislain.

Ghislain,

Thanks for the hints.. but I don't think it's the bushings.. they should be all ok (they're all < 2 yrs old and poly-urethane -suspension techniques bushings)...

Well, all except for the subframe bushings... I'll take a peek and see whats happening there...

Thanks
GLenn

I'm having the same problem with my car, '92 Laser Awd. I have narrowed it down to sub frame bushings as all the rest are new within the last year and the sub frame bushings look to be in bad shape and should be replaced even if thats not the problem.

My car has the same clunk...ONLY after at least 2 touchless drive-through wash. And would clunk for a day or 2. Then..it's gone never to be heard from until the next wash. smile

Ya I have a front end clunk too, it comes from the left front and only happens with a forward or backward transfer of weight, ie, acceleration or deceleration. Its annoying, but I haven't looked into cause i can't afford to fix anything now.

Yep, that's the same symptom I get... mostly under acceleration from a standing start... I notice it clunks much more now since I adjusted the KYB's to be softer for the winter... (down to 1's all round).. so the suspension is moving more...

When I get some time, I'll investigate further and post the results...

Regards
Glenn

I just had my clunk fixed.
all I replaced was the sway bar end links, $25 each.
Mine would only clunk if you floored it from a dead stop or if I hit a pot hole, or sewer cover etc.
