When using CAPS, I punch in my VIN and it spits out two part nos. for the intake manny gasket..

MD176459 and MD188995.

So which is it? Car is an early 92 (6-bolt - Although I don't know that it matters).

I would need that info as well for my 93 AWD. That is next on the list. What does an intake gasket go for anywho?

Just a guess, but maybe one is a paper and the other a metal gasket? I definately don't want to be stuck with the paper one.

I have the part number for the metal one at home. I'll post it this evening.

The other part number could even be for the EGR gasket.. As long as it attaches to the intake manifold, they may call it that.

Sorry for the wait Rafal, I couldn't get back on here until now.

MD188995 is the right part number.

While were on the the topic and if you don't mind a mini thread hi-jack laugh how hard is this to replace while everything is still in the car? My main concern is getting the bolts on the bottom off and re-installed. Is this a few hour job or a whole weekend? Remember I have never done this and the first time I do a new repair I have to multiply the standard time by 3 (no seriously I am retardedly slow the first time yet I can do the job a second time in record time  ) Cheers.

Matt, I've heard that 3 hours is how long it would normally take with the engine in.

Matt, it's really tough to get at the intake manifold/block brace behind the manifold.. and once you get those two bolts off, it's even tougher to remove the bolts holding the manifold on the head (especially the lower ones).

There isn't that much to it, most of the time will be spent cussing/contorting your body to get at the bolts.

I took mine off along with the head, made it a breeze.

Sounds about as fun as I thought it would be. Any tools in particular you guys suggest getting? I don't have one of those pivoting head ratchets, I do have the u-joint extension but it might be to long for the space. I'm just worried about properly torqueing everything, I don't need more leaks. Hmm sounds like I should give myself a two day period when I don't need to drive anywhere. Trying to track down a major boost leak and looking at worst case scenarios  , Cheers.

I could be wrong, but I don't think you can get a socket on the lower i/manny to head bolts, unless you have one that's really thin walled/stubby. Then again, I don't have the greatest tools.

Well not being able to fit a ratchet in there could be a problem. My torque wrench is thicker then a normal ratchet so I could have issues. Well I guess I will have to be really sure of wear my boost leak is before I tear into the manifold (I can already feel the sore back from leaning in there for several hours frown ) Cheers,

You'll NEVER get a torque wrench in there. No way in hell.
