I have the Evo 3 O2 housing, and a VRS 3" turboback system from Slowboy. I cannot get the DP to connect properly to the O2 housing, due to the slightly different angle O2 housing outlet. It causes the DP to be pushed against the transmission, and doesn't allow me to tighten up the DP-O2 bolts sufficiently to seal the connection. I have tried stacking gaskets, but the face of the DP flange is still at an angle to the housing outlet. I knew the 3" was gonna be loud, but with the exhaust leak, it's practically unbearable. Anybody else running this combo and come up with a solution for this issue? Thanks, Jeff

Jeff, I just learned about this issue when I sold you that system, and got really busy. Actually, I was just looking at it again yesterday. There isn't an EASY fix....to do the job RIGHT it is going to require some modification to the O2 housing (to set the bolts at the correct angle), and then an angled spacer. I can't seem to come up with anything that would be a "bolt on" sort of "out in the field". Everything I can think of requires actual modification to the O2 housing. I am anxious to hear what others have come across when doing this upgrade....

I know you've been busy Ziggy. I appreciate the fact that you let me know shortly after sending me the parts that you were looking into a solution to the problem.
I have tried everything I can do as a backyard mechanic. I am considering seeing if I can get the DP bent slightly to accomodate the different angle. But I don't like the idea of having an "exhaust technician" fubar my $300 pipe.

Jeff, I don't blame you, and agree with you. Let's see what others have come up with. Surely some of you guys have EVO O2 housings on your cars? What did you have to do to make the DP fit properly??

Most vendors sell downpipes that have been designed (angled differently) to work with an EVO 02 housing and will warn you when you buy a downpipe that it won't work with the EVO housings (See Road Race's site for an example of the different types they sell, and their explanation). Jeff's best option here since he's already got a full turbo back system would be to ditch the EVO O2 housing and either buy a 2G O2 housing, or get a "2G-style" 2.5" tubular housing that alot of vendors sell.

Problem with that is it leaves me out of pocket for the EVO3 and then I have to buy another one.
I'd like to try to make this work.
Any other solutions/suggestions?

Take it to an exhaust shop, have them tweak the downpipe. I'm assuming that you have one that is larger than stock. I had my cousin's done and they charged $40 to install, modify, and make a 'test' pipe.

Jeff, if we can't come up with a better solution, I won't see you out of pocket for the EVO O2 housing. If the solution DOES end up being going back to your old O2 housing, I will buy the EVO one back from you.
I see Shane is also from Calgary..maybe he can let you know where that work was done, maybe they can do something for you there??
I can do a modification here that would make it fit, but I would need the O2 housing back for a bit....or maybe I could modify another and then do a swap with you....

Thanks for the offer Ziggy.
I will try to explore all my options (which is basically get the DP modified) and see where that leads.
I'll let you know.

Stopped in a couple of muffler shops today on the way to work ... and the verdict is not good.
They say due to it being 3", its not easy to tweak, so they would need to cut, test, cut, weld, test ...blah blah blah.
Both estimates for the work were in the $250 - $300 range.
So if there are any other suggestions, let me have them.

Jeff....there is only one PROPER solution!
Do you still have your old O2 housing? I can modify your EVO housing to accept the downpipe properly, but it can't be done by you out in the field. Any chance at all you could temporarily install your old one? It seems a shame to take a step backwards to a 2g O2 housing. If you could get yours back to me temporarily, I will modify it (no charge, of course) to accept the downpipe properly...

(Things that both shops you mention have had to do in the past with large/common parts they make...)
Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!

Great news Ziggy. I have actually already changed out to a borrowed MASSIVELY ported 1g housing (thanks Gabe) since I couldn't stand the tractor noise any more. So the EVO3 is available for shipping. What exactly is the fix? Adding or taking away material? I'll email you for shipping details. Jeff
