Is it just me or the police starting early on picking on car people?

Last 2 days have been horrible. I've gotten pulled over way to many times with no tickets, just warnings + the waste of time.

Just to mention a few quotes and situations that I went through which are self explanitory.

Idling to long, muffler way to loud, no seat belts - oh you were wearing them!?...ok windows tinted to dark, pop your hood...I heard something that is not stock, your ride is to low, tires need air, clear corners and tail lights are not for road use, highbeams are to bright, horn sounds like it's about to die...better get it checked out....can I keep going or do you feel my pain annoy

My goodness. If this is just what I went through in excuses for the past 2 days, can't wait until summer hits.

Anyone here had any problems yet?

My secretary (Brandi) was pulled over this morning on the way in....for NO good reason. She was going to make a lane change, but an aggressive driver coming up quickly scared her and made her wait. Instead of pulling over the aggressive driver, they pulled HER over. Do you think that the fact that her ex is a cop and he and one of his cop buddies are probably losing their jobs this Friday because of abusing their powers and falsely accusing her of harrassment has anything to do with it??

Personally, I am looking forward to Friday...two less bad ones!!

I find that asking directly for their name and badge number right away, when it's obvious you've done nothing wrong, makes them stop and think for a moment...

LOL I am going to try that sometime. Just to see the look on their face. As long as it doesn't make them more angry.

She did ask for his card, and he wanted to know what she wanted it for. She told him she had a "collection". I told her she SHOULD have said her meticulous record keeping is what is getting his 2 crooked colleagues fired....

I've been pulled over 3 times this week already.
The cop was just like "well you know these little sports cars we have to check them out Blah blah blah"

Great...they've started in Kitchener already? Its gotten bad here the last couple of years. I had no front plate for almost two years and didnt get stopped once, then all of a sudden I was getting stopped constantly. Ended up putting it on just so I wouldnt be glued to my rearview mirror everytime a cop passed me. So far, Ive only been questioned about my exhaust

Worst part about me getting pulled over is that I drive the speed limit, and my car is completely debadged and stock looking aside from the chrome muffler tip and lowering kit.

Pulled over twice in one day two days ago. Once in Pickering and once in Markham.

1. My car is black and the licence plate/ownership says my car is red: led to a warning.

2. My car is missing a front license plate: led to a warning.

I haven't been pulled over in 3 years and then bang, twice in one day... in my winter DSM beater of all things.

Exactly how I still feel...I too may just toss the plate on, it sucks being nervous every time you pass a cop.

Carry a tape recorder. When the cop gets to the window, make sure he sees it. He had better come up with some good BS then. He NEEDS to have probable cause to pull you over.

Man worst I've found for getting pulled over was Waterloo/kitchener and Guelph.

Cops are so bored there. Toronto is not that bad for me. Durham region kinda sucks for getting pulled over.

On my 10 mins drives to work, I usually see 1 car pulled over. Usually a riced up J body or a civic.

Oakville cops are extremely bored, especially at night, they will pull you over if you look under 25. I had a cop pull a quick u-turn and follow me to my house. I walked outside from my house after he finally got to my house and just stood there looking at him. He quickly left.

Before my car was stock i wasnt that worried... im still pretty much stock except my boost gauge... but maybe they will see it fromt he front window and decicde to harass me... i hope not... weep

I believe the cops need to tell you if they are recording, not the other way around. Certainly you wouldn't need to tell them for a civil suit. If you win a civil judgement, the cop will surely lose his job. Depending on severity of course. Get a copy of the highway traffic act too and have it in the car. Let the cop see the recorder and the book. He won't be ready for you being ready for him.

Oh yes it is! Pulled over. Cops says "One of your license plate lights are burnt out. I cant read your whole plate!" "But sir, were on richmond. All the lights are on, main street is lit up! Plus your headlights are on, shouldn't be too hard."

Cop gets pissed off and say "your just one of these young punks with loud mufflers out terrorizing the streets at night." "sir, my exhaust is stock. And its not loud." So I rev it up a bit, right quiet lol! He tells me he has a list of tickets for me. I asked for his name and badge number. Then he let me off with a warning. Not before he mutters something about my gauges and stuff. Whatever.

Im still not sure what the warning was for, lol. I have more stories. bird

Well. I can’t sleep now until I post this. I got home around 0320 am today, but before getting home I got stopped again - By the same guy too.

This time he wanted to see if all my papers were in order and wanted to play the why game with me. Yes the “why” game. Here are the rules as I found out. Police officer asks the questions and you reply without getting them angry. This is in no way disrespectful to those on the board or guests whom may be reading this that wear the uniform that serves and protects us with the intent to perform in accordance with the laws governed by society to carry out such duties.

This was my game session:

Why do you..

… have "silly looking" gauges on the A-Pillar?
… have a "funny box" (SAFC) in your center vent that has strange symbols?
… need seat covers?
… have one window tinted and not the other?

What in the world does this have to do with “to serve and protect?”

All this in 15 minutes with no tickets nor warnings. What is Police force coming too?

I had to pause for a moment to re-evaluate my responses to each question and to get over the shock of what I was hearing. I just smiled at him with a not so pleased eye and grin and answered as best I could letting him clue in that I was not impressed.

I closed with conversation with the usual “can I see your badge officer?” and what do you know "Not now, got an emergency call, see you later". He books a hard U-turn stopping traffic in both directions and all I could do was …zilch.

"see you later" what does this mean? I'm foreshadowing another encounter soon with this guy.

Next time, get his badge number FIRST. Tell him "sure, I will gladly answer your questions..but first could I have your card or see some identification. I want to be sure you REALLY ARE a police officer and not some psycho killer masquerading as one". If he refuses then, you would be within your rights to just drive away!!

The worst part is that while he spends his day asking why people use seat covers, stuff like this keeps happening:

I guess I have been lucky with my Talon's last 3 years of ownership. Only been pulled over twice, once because I had a temp and he just wanted to see it.. no problem (was driving out of a hotel @ 2am so he thought I was tanked) Second was an all out pull everyone blitz where I got a stupid search/ticket which I eventually fought and won in court, at least I'm not "targeted" knock on wood.

hey tim, its illegal to remove the front plate it must be mounted on the front of the car at all times. as for the ownership you have to apply for a new one with the new information. other wise youll get a ticket. i just had a mid term on all this stuff in school so if anyone has any questions ask away.

Matt, I think you're a bit confused. They DO need probably cause to pull you over. On your points:

1)Licensing: You'd have to look under-aged, or come up on their records as driving under suspension, etc...

2)Registration: It'd have to come up with wrong or improper information when they ran your tags through their computer.

3)Insurance: Again, it'd have to be flagged in their computer.

4)Sobriety: You'd have to be weaving/driving erratically, or they'd have seen you leave a bar/party/etc...

Matt: Heh. It sounds like he's trying to get into 'the scene' himself. Ask him if he wants to check out your car. (: BTW, Why WOULD you only have one window tinted? *Laugh*

And no, you don't have to inform the other party that you're taping the conversation. As long as the conversation is taking place between you and them, and you're not just a 'bystander'.

They can certainly pull you over, but they cannot detain you, or ticket you for anything if you provide them with the information that they ask for. Without cause, they cannot just do a random search of the vehicle for parts ect that they think might be illegal. If they were going to do that, then they have to present that as the reason when they pull you over. They can't pull you over to check your insurance and then search your car after you provide them with your insurance papers. And if they do, take it to court because it will get dismissed.

My car is the opposite.
Everything is tinted except for the driver's window.
It may help as I've never been questioned about my tints being too dark (they can see ME, and that's what matters).

Out of all the cars I've owned, I've gotten pulled over the least in my TSi.
Clearly I'm modded, and they just don't seem to care.
Not that I'm complaining angel

In that case I feel pretty damn lucky. I've been pulled over only once. And thats because my sticker was expired. But I had a temp permit on the front windshield.

Holy Hell! I was out for no more than 5 minutes today, and I passed/was tailed by 5 un-marked cruisers. Insane.

I've only been hassled a couple times. First time was with another car, that had work done to it (nothing that was illegal according to the highway traffic act but according to the officer it was). Got pulled over for rolling through a stop sign & she did a complete inspection, under the hood etc. Got a ticket for the illegal stop plus bald tires & improper muffler (she said its illegal to not have baffles, bs), she also wanted to give me a ticket for the sun strip but I guess she couldn't find anything to put it under. Went to court got the stop sign ticket droped to improper stop (something like that, went from a 3 or 4 point to no points) and the tire & muffler tickets dropped.

Next time with the eclipse I got pulled over for no front license plate. I hadn't had the car that long & it didn't have a spot to mount one (plus the front plate looks like crap so I didn't go out of my way to put one on,lol). So I was nice and polite & of course its some younge cop trying to prove himself & was a complete dick. He gave me the front plate ticket & improper muffler. Went to court & got off as the car is no wears close to the legal limit.

The only time I've had a good encounter (well if you can call it that) with a cop was last summer. It was 330 in the morning coming home, I was just coming out of a town & it turned to an 80, he was coming the other way and I guess he had his radar on as he turned his lights on before I even passed him. I was just accelerating as it turned into an 80. He said he clocked me doing 120 with an intention to go faster (whats that mean, lol). Asked me if I had anything done to the car, had to pause a min for that one. He replied just intake and exhaust, to which I said yes (as you can see my pillar pod & cluster pod lite up with gauges, turbo timer, boost controller, wideband & laptop sitting on the passenger side, lol). He ended up droping my ticket to 15 over.

I had a little break and enter one night at my home. Lucky my stereo and safc were left alone.

Drove all the way to Hamilton to buy a replacement off another member, and never got around to tinting it. Tint King this year wink

I got pulled over thursday night on my way home from work in milton, he had a reason to pull me over though he ran my plates and the car came up as red but it is charcoal now I forgot to tell the MTO. He was actually pretty nice about it. Ran my license through his computer gave me a warning and I was on my way. oddly enough it was the first time being pulled over in my laser. The previous owner told me how he used to get pulled over almost every week... then agian he was a maniac.

I just got home now, but got pulled over at Dufferin and Lawrence Ave. and received a $110.00 ticket for Unnecessary Noise – according to him. After I get the ticket in my hand, I asked for his badge number and he stated that his number was on the ticket.

I can't even read it, very messy. I asked him again and he walked away. So I stayed in my car and when he turned around, I popped my head out the window and wrote his car # down. Doesn't he see me do this and turn back around, then gives me a lecture on stupid people pissing off the police. Then this nice lowered bmw blows by us with incredible speed, but you think the officer did anything about that.

I looked at the distant bmw and said to him, "Did you just call me stupid?" at the same time, I made sure he saw my security licence – issued by O.P.P - as I put my drivers licence back into my wallet.

He then had a change of heart about not giving me his badge number and gave it to me. I said, “Its okay officer, like you said, it’s on the back of the ticket. Will you be attending the court date that I file?”

He gets nervous, wipes his forehead with his arm, and walks away in disbelief. I’d say he had the “oh, crap” look on his face.

Yes, I will fight this in court.

In the last 6 months I've gotten 4 tickets.
-No proof of insurance
-No front plate
-No rear tailights
-Running a red - I actually rolled through it making a right hand turn.
In the last 3 months, I've had two suspensions and not only that, I get pulled over atleast 3 times a week for my muffler or something stupid like my system is to loud.
Peel cops ****ing blow goats, especially when you get those rookie cops that are still in training, 9 times out of 10, you can talk your way out of it, 9 times out of 10 I deserve the ticket...Either way, I'm sure they'll have another blitz sooner or later instead of dealing with the guns and drugs that have recently bombarded our streets. W/e.

That sucks that you got pulled over for what was probably nothing. The london city police are pretty bad for that also.

Just to let you know though, everytime I've seen a security guard try to be all buddy-buddy, or show some credentials, I would laugh at them...so I would doubt it would make the guy afraid or something...but anyway.
