I'm fortunate enough to get to rip it up in the General's latest and greatest every once in a while. This week I got to try the new Saturn SKY. As with every new car, I looked, sat and made my list of things I didn't like or would change. I was probably more sceptical than usual, since after all this was a Saturn. Then I dropped the top, turned the key and went for a spin. Even though it's an automatic and only has the 170hp ecotec, after the first hard corner combined with a throttle mash, I had to throw my list away. This thing put a big grin on my face. The more I drive it the more I like it. I guess part of that is the fact that it's actually relatively affordable ($32K msrp). Practical it is not, but man is it sexy and fun. Can't wait to drive the 2L turbo 260hp (red line) when it comes out. We'll have to see how that thing responds to mods, but if I recall the Bonevvile Salt Flats ecotec put out ~700hp & ~550ft-lb, so it should be interesting.

I was never sure about the Solstice...
But for the first time I can say "I like a Saturn"... That's gotta be worth something tu

Same here. Saturn drivers are idiots, but with the Sky, I could take the label. Definitely styled after the Mercedes convertibles.

Oddly enough, my wife loves the Solstice and HATES the Sky. Exact opposite of my feelings. But then again, she IS my wife. smile

Ya the Pontiac version is butt ugly, but I actually like the looks of the sky. Haven't seen one on the streets yet, but they had it at the past auto show. Should be a nice package when the turbo version comes out.

It's funny, this is turning into what feels like a week long fling with a really hot chick who makes you do bad things demon . I catch myself putting the trash in the garage, looking at it and saying in my head "you hot biatch". On the sunny days this week I have been dropping my daughter off at daycare in my Accord (child seat) and going back home for the sky, so I could drive it to work. rotate

The redline will be available in the fall. I don't know what the msrp will be but my guess would be a 3-4K premium.

Here is a site with lots of into on the turbo ecotec that will go in the redline. I guess it will be a bit harder to mod with direct injection. Provided the injectors can flow lots of fuel by design it will be a matter of convincing the ecu to increase the fuel rail pressure and/or injection duration. I know, what it will need is an EcoLINK.
