Well, seemingly Canada, United States, and Europe has made the required bumper laws uniform! http://canadagazette.gc.ca/partII/2008/20080625/html/sor199-e.html for more information From what it seems and what I gather, it lowers the bumper requirement from 5mph to 3mph essentially making the Pontiac GTO & Mitsubishi Lancer Evo's legal... Now, I cannot verify for the authenticity, but it also seems that we can import any car from the US after a certain production date provided it conforms to this bumper law .... R34 Skyline anyone? http://www.riv.ca for more information! I do not see that it has been completely updated with the new bumper law and formerly in-admissible cars

Cars from japan unaffected. So no R34s, R33s.. As for the list, its currently being updated. Some one from our local club called them and asked. That may be the case, but from I gather, R34/R33's are registerable in the United States....does that not mean we can import them here once they are in the US? And the Evo8 was sold in the US if I remember correctly - making them allowed in Canada provided its problems with the bumper standard were resolved with this bumper law revision

Mmmm, interesting.
I would ask anyone that finds some Transport Canada documentation to pass it along.
Maybe some day...

I would doubt it. Basically it was 'US cars allowed with exceptions, NO others unless they are 15 years old'. They don't care about why, it's just a blanket law. And it also covers Euro cars that are imported into the US, and then tried to be imported into Canada.

Well The Evo X is NOT listed as Inadmissable anymore. Theres just that note in the section beside it reffering to the electronic immobilizer that was the previous issue preventing the importation of the car to Canada. But now if you go to page 2 & 3 and read sections 2 & 3 under Immobilizer, then it looks like the car CAN be imported, though modifications (via Mitsubishi OEM parts OR aftermarket) is permitted to make the car admissible for import !!!

Ivan, those GTO's are one of the most underrated cars. I tooled around in one in Australia (called a monerro there), simply an awesome car. I'd rip off the spoiler, import a new bumper and hood from Aus (I'm not a big fan of all of the plastic GM added to it), other than that SWEET.

A guy from the Toronto Subaru Club has already imported a 2003 Evo VIII. It was a bit of a collector car, with only 10,000 miles on it, but he didn't say how much he paid.
Pretty cool that the flood gates are opening.

I just took another look at RIV's website. Their list of inadmissable cars is now VERY brief. As for the Electronic Immobilizer thing, according to RIV all you need now is evidence of ANY type of immobilizer on cars made after Sept.1, '07. They just note that it doesn't comply with the new standard, but that it 'works'. On a car that doesn't have one at all, I think the code they require you to install to isn't as stringent as their new standard is... In short... WOOHOO!!! Open season! (I'm noting the '00 Audi S4 is no longer inadmissable as well. ) The only thing I don't like are the 'veiled threats' from the upper tier MFRs like BMW and Ferrari, who require you to perform any modifications at one of their dealers before they'll issue the Recall Clearance Letter. Looks like I'll never buy a BMW now. Don't like companies that try to rule you.
