Okay, its Saturday night and I'm going crazy studying about NMR Spectroscopy (don't ask)! So here's the survey: Where do you have your aftermarket gauges mounted or where you would perfer to have them... (You can reference Mach V for pictures: http://www.machv.com/gaugmounsol.html if you have no clue.) So do you perfer: 1) Dash Top 2) A-Pillar 3) Vent Panel (1G) 4) Dash Bezel I've just picked up a couple of new gauges and can't decide to mount them on the A-pillar or dash... (it's a 2G). Let's see how this goes! -Anton

I have 2 and 3. Triple a pillar...boost,egt,af and vents are oil pressure and water temp. I guess it depends what you like. The Egt and oil are the one's i most watch.

The cluster bezels are nice and stealthy (i.e. less likely to have your car broken into because of your bling bling gauges), but the gauges are harder to see there than if they're mounted on the A-pillar.
I have the pillar mount, but if I get anymore gauges they're going in a cluster bezel.

I have three bling-bling gauges (GReddy whiteface 60mm boost, EGT and fuel pressure), mounted on the a-pillar. Future gauge additions will be dash bezel mounted.

Single boost gauge in a cup on the left instrument cluster pod.
Palm datalogger on center console w/ custom bracket.

I will be rocking a dual dashtop on the angled part of the dash (to the left above the instrumentation)... I figure it's right at a glance and it fits so well there.

Im part of Gheto Racing when it comes to mounting stuff in the interior. My boost gauge is mounted at the base of the A-pillar and the winshield. I took some of that metal straping they use to hold pipes etc. doubled it over for rigidity and made an "L" bracket that punches up through the mini speaker cover on the dash. I put all the lines and wiring through the speaker as well. I works great, sits in a good spot and looks like crap. I get alot of people (mostly people who don't know much about cars) looking in at it wondering what it is or does. I even had a cop at a ride program ask about it out of curiousity. Now that I have some big Hella FF1000 driving lights out front I get all kinds of weird looks. My cars and ugly b!tch but I love her .

Darko, the one on the driver's side is not too bad. Just a little below eye-level and to the right. However, the one on the passenger side is a little bit of a pain to monitor.

I have 2 guages on the A-pillar. I think that's the best spot personally. I'll eventually add another 2 in the dash bezel. The vents would be awkward for me, and the dashtop is ugly IMHO.
Write that down.

There are 2 photos there. THe stereo doesn't overlap the HVAC controls. I have a triple a-pillar and the fourth gauge is going to be mounted similar the picture above next to an S-AFC, under the deck.

The instrument bezel that holds aftermarket gauges only exists for 2G AFAIK. Yes, there are two photos spliced together there for space reasons. The HVAC controls have not been altered. You could put the timer in: - the A/C vent
- underneath the deck (where my S-AFC is)
- inside the joint between the center console (with the gearshift) and the center cluster (with the stereo)
- On the bottom of the dashboard, in the driver's footwell
- Mounted inside the bottom of the dashboard in the driver's footwell (the knee panel)
- Inside/underneath the little compartment in front of the gearshift (1Gs only, maybe?)
- Vertically behind the joint between the instrument cluster and the HVAC controls
Some of these will be easier than others. Depends how much cutting you're willing to do.

OK I have two ways of mounting gauges; weird but I've done the first one on one and the second method on two DSMs now and BOTH have a real WOW effect at a great pirce (free with the right tools). Thing is, might not be helpful b/c it's for a 1G
First of all, if you are running an aftermarket deck, the second DIN slot would be super nice to throw on a piece of black plastic dremmel cut to fit with 2" holes made by a circle saw. You just need to grind down a bit of the bezel to fit th egauges flush (not a big deal)
The second way, very sleeperish (which I recommend myself)... Ever open the center glovebox to see the cupholder and wonder? Yes that is what I did once. My gauges have been mounted there ever since. I realize this may not be the safest place to read the gauges on the highway, but as I said earlier, it has a real wow effect. I just drilled holes for the fittings, used the round screw-on washers, made a little "bracket" and voila... gauges in the cupholder!
