I am new to this site and new to owning a DSM.
I just got my hands on a 1997 Eclipse Spyder Turbo.
Here's the problem... Until I got this car I've never even seen a turbocharger in real life before nor do I know what I'm doing with it. I got it with performance parts already on it but I am a total n00b.
Just wondering if there is someone in the Simcoe, Tillsonburg, Port Rowan kind of area that would be willing to show me a few things and bestow some of their DSM and turbo related knowledge upon me? That would be super duper. smile

You've come do the right place for your wealth of DSM knowledge my friend. Welcome to the club. One good way to start learning, is to read. There is a lot to read on here, so you'll keep yourself busy for a long time. Next you can use the search option, if you're looking for something in particular. Also if you want to know about the mods on your car, you could take pictures and show the world, and we can potentially guide you where to look.

Now, two things:

1) Please for the love of god don't go cranking the boost and blowing stuff up. Like has been said before, people crank the boost to 20psi on stock injectors and give our cars a bad name tongue .

2) Pictures, or it didn't happen.

That being said, once again, welcome to the club!

Ryan should have kept his latest DSM off of the track! Save himself some embarrassment!

Thanks guys. I am actually in Brantford a lot, maybe some time I will see if I can come by.
As for the pics I'll see what I can do.
I was told that the injectors are upgraded but to be honest I can't tell what they are. I wouldn't know how to turn up the boost anyway, as I said I know zero about it. I know that the boost guage already goes way up there so somebody before me knew how.
Just by looking at what doesn't look stock I can see a front mount intercooler, Injen intake, full exhuast system, Aeromotive fuel pump, Stewart Warner boost and a/f guages. The BOV doesn't look stock but I don't know what it is. It has some numbers and letters on it lol. Says GF8 and 1003-5 which means nothing to me.

Like I said before: take pictures tongue

The Aeromotive thing is probably a fuel pressure regulator, under the hood. Fuel pump is under the rear seats.

Haha well as I said I don't know. I know I hear a fuel pump tongue so it's around somewhere lol. I'll go take pics now, I don't know how to post them yet but I'll figure it out.

I've got the pictures of Dustin's car, and I'd like to say, it looks like you've got a great base to start. A lot of good mods on there, and looks like you have a really nice car. Just be nice to her wink . Oh, are you intending to drive this in the winter? frown

Things I noticed: I see that your intake pipe recirc looks open to the atmosphere: is it plugged? Also, you're missing an exhaust manifold nut. Otherwise, nice!

Welcome Dustin, If you are able to get the list of mods from the previous owner it would be abit more useful on finding some non-visable mods

Seems like you got a 14b or a 16g turbo on there

95 Red TSI AWD - Daily Driver
97 Black TSI AWD - 6bolt swap in process
97 White TSI - R.I.P.

I know one of the nuts is missing, there are other things that need to be done as well. The intake has a plugged hose coming out of it so I assume that's what you are talking about.
I can't remember the name of the guy I got it from but I got it from Mississauga.
I don't think driving it in the winter would be possible cause it's extremely low to the ground. There is only like 3" under the rad.
Thanks Eric for hosting my pics and thanks to everyone for the welcome. smile

It was owned by Ryan Scott about a year ago.

Dustin - here is a link to his for sale post which I believe gives you important information such as that this was orginally a GS(non-turbo) not sure if you knew that - should be a bit cheaper on insurance. As well as several mods you may have not known about. http://www.ca.dsm.org/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=41370&Number=277791#Post277791

Thank you, that will come in handy smile
It's good to know exactly what's in it.
Unfortunately I'm already paying turbo insurance. Damn insurance is mad expensive. Probably mostly due to the old lead foot being captured by bacon on too many occasions.
I've read some about blue/black/yellow top injectors what does that mean?

Haha this is totally unrelated but I have to write it anyway. When I got my eclipse I gave a buddy the junky Cavalier that I was driving to put in a demo derby. And the hunk of crap won lol.
Just had to write that cause it was exciting to me.

Ok so today I was opening my door and my alarm, which I didn't know I had, started going off. I don't have a remote for it, all I have is a key. For some reason putting the key in the driver's door did nothing and I had to put it in the passenger door to shut it up.
Would it have had a remote originally? If so is there any way I could get a remote that would sync up to what's there other than trying to get it from the previous owner or am I S.O.L.?
And if I have no other options how can I disconnect it? It's only done it twice and it's already annoying.

You should take a look for the alarm, see if you can find the brain. If you do find the brain, get the serial and model # for it, and contact the manufacterer. They will usually sell you a remote and give you instructions on how to get it to work. I have a compustar one in my car, and to turn off the alarm you put the key in the ignition and turn on/off seven times.

depends on the installer really. Mine was found under the dash above the interior fuse panel. Look near the ECU, and they might have even put it under the hood (doubt that)

Ok cool, I'll check it out in the daylight.
Another question, at what point should it start making boost?
It seems like under normal driving it doesn't really boost, it's usually in vaccuum. Is that normal?
