So, i was talking to a guy at EURO DRIVE awhile back and he was talking to me about how cleaning your injectors can significantly increase fuel mileage.

I assume after 150,000kms they would be at least a little dirty. HE said its about $25 per injector and they replace o-rings and flow test each one, etc. Apparently i can save up to 25% on my fuel. Other opinions?

***he said that dirt thinner then a human hair can change the flow of the injectors by 20%***

I would just get a new set of injectors for $200. At 150,000km cleaning will only do some much.

cleaning the injectors would allow for more fuel to flow through them inturn burning more gas?

not sure how you will reduce fuel consumption by 20%

If the dirty injectors don't spray properly, not all of the fuel will atomize and burn, so some fuel is wasted.
I don't know about 20% but it makes sense that there should be some improvement.

$25 per injector is what I paid to have mine cleaned but I don't have any before/after data.

Used stock injectors aren't even worth that much, so that money is better put towards new bigger injectors.

On the other hand, if you HAVE large injectors, they are worth a good buck, and the money for cleaning would be well invested..

So i guess new injectors then......

Well, lets say $130 ish after taxes for them to get cleaned.

How much would i have to pay for brand new bigger injectors and i also dont know if id have to tune it at all and i dont have anything to tune with...

Just toss some of that injector cleaner into your gas tank and call it a day. Until you have a setup that can handle some bigger and better injectors.

A set of 550CC injectors will run you like 220. Hell, my 1000s only cost me $300

Yes you will need fuel control. It doesn't have to be very expensive (depending on your goal).

If you're never going to mod the car then it's a different story.
What do they charge to get injectors cleaned at a garage (while in the car)? I guess it could be worth doing if your goal was only for better gas mileage, but I'll have to remind you that you're driving a DSM!

Yeah i know, well what are you suppose to get with a stock set up? I get around 350-400 km/tank (mostly city driving)

I have plans for this car, but in my financialy situation right now, id rather pay off my school debt. This toy can wait, for now i soak it up like a sponge so i do it right the first time demon

Either your car needs a tune-up, or you are not using all of your gas tank.
There are plenty of discussions on mileage if you take a look. 400 km/tank city is definitely low but not uncommon.

^ Agree! You should be getting anywhere from 400-550 km a tank even with a few Wide Open runs here and there.

I got 700KM all highway once. There were some WOT pulls in there too!
Lots of mods.
It's all about the tune.

Next time you fill the tank, see how much went in. The tank is 65L. You might only be putting in ~50L, filling up early due to the crappy gas gauge.

Come on... All highway. It's not that big of a difference.
Even if I were AWD and got only 600KM highway, for comparison, Joshua's mileage is still poor or he's not using the tank. But we don't need to use me to compare, there are many discussions here about mileage and I'm sure there are some AWD cars going the distance too!

For the guys who like to go for long cruises in the summer, try an evo3 5th gear. Its 10% taller. 100km/h on the hwy puts me at around 2700rpm wink

I went to Ziggy's once and came back home to Markham and still had over 1/2 tank of gas in my AWD. That's a total of 390km. To compare a regular DSM 5th gear on a drive that long, I would have under 1/2 a tank of gas after 390 km of just cruising.

i get 390 per tank frown lol

AND i put in about 50L every fill, so your saying im not using all my gas? (since its a 65L tank)
Maybe i should drive it till it dies and have a lil tank of gas in the trunk to find out....

Now that i think about it, my gas light does come when im just under the 1/4 mark and goes away eventually...so i should drive it longer on the empty mark perhaps? Anyway to fix this "crappy" gas gauge?

I did some research: things i can do: please tell me which are least expensive and quickest:

1) new o2
2) injector o rings
3) fuel filter
4) thermostat
5) clogged cat
6) base timing - timing light/grounding timing pin
7) boost leask test
8) compression test
9) timing retarted a couple degrees

You are actually getting just over 500KM a tank, then.

Research the gas gauge fix. There have been some ideas but I'm not sure if it's ever been solved.

I would go in this order:
7,8,3,6(9),4,2,1,5

P.S

So far on researching that gas gauge fix: not much turns up. There's been "drive by your odometer" a couple times lol not very helpful - apparently its the sending unit that needs to be fixed...But also seems to be somewhat of a common problem...

No prob!

Yes it's common for AWD because the gas tank has a baffle in the middle. Mitsu did not do a good job at making sure the gas gauge is still accurate while each side of the tank has a different amount of gas in it. There are some electrical fixes such as adding a potentiometer to the gauge line so you can "tune" it.

In the end it's probably best to just drive by your odometer. Use the fuel replaced and trip meter to derive the L/100KM number. KM/tank is never a productive discussion smile

I get about 600kms to a tank, with an AWD Auto, which does make a difference in gearing.

I did Smiths Falls-Ottawa every day for 2 months, and I could go 2.5 days (5 trips) before I'd have to fill up, with beatings on the car in town. Mind you, I'm on gas light when I'd have to get gas.

100kms/one way.

I'm in the same boat. I get about 400 or less on a full tank, mixed city/hwy driving.

I do have one of those alarm systems with the turbo timer built in and a remote starter so there is quite a bit of idle time, but I think I'm not doing so great with the mileage either.

Hrmm.

No, i think im getting more, hence why only 43L was filled, our tanks hold 65 litres, but its saying im on empty when i really have 22L of gas still in the tank....

If, I put 15 bucks into my talon. It still reads empty, 20 bucks and the needle starts to move, So i guess im having the same problem.. KM wise in the past 2 years, mi trip has not passed 350km per tank(highway)and the most i get is 250 city.. car was stock too with no problems mad... I always thought these cars were not fuel efficient.

we have a 65L tank?! Crap! My gas light stays on and I only fill 45L...stupid sensors...

as for your fuel efficiency...how hard are you guys on your accelerator?!

300km is 37L fill TOPS for me, in winter with 3-5 mins idle warming each time the car was cold. Hell, last summer, driving nice I got 300km on less than 30L fills. 350km on highway ONLY.

I've got Walbro 190, Evo3 Yellow top injectors, FMIC, 14b, 3" turbo-back, etc, etc. Untuned DSMLink. Stock motor at 250k kms.
