Life moves on and it's time to retire my DSM. I'm wondering what cars other DSMers have moved on to and were happy with? After every test drive of a newer(2008-2010) car, I've gone back to my DSM and loved it that much more It would be an awesome design even today, sure wish they still made it.

Hello Chris.
I'd try to get myself an EVOVIII; especially if you go down the states every once in a while.
Other contenders could be a BMW or a Hyundai Genessis if you chose to go RWD.
Audi and Subaru also have interesting cars especially if you chose to get an AWD.
Let us know what you get.

EVO3 would be amazing.. but I have no idea how to buy from US.. How many days would I need to get it done?.. Another thing is I'd have to find a good car right away, no time to shop around. Genesis also looks sweet.. out of my price range ... I should probably find a good used Subaru.

Genesis from my personal experience......sh!t car. Waste of money. Could buy a lot of better cars for cheaper.

99 ECLIPSE GSX with wide body kit, tons of boost, methanol, and dsm link. Can't be beat! I also told myself if I find a 99 Eclipse GSX in white, or 98 Talon AWD (with Eclipse conversion in white), with low miles, that I would sell my Spyder for it in a heartbeat I hope to have a DSM for a long long time, that sits beside another awesome car

If you shop around and are not in a huge rush, you can find some good quality used cars for $17K. Do you really want out of DSM's, or do you want out of YOUR DSM? If so, I also receommend the 99 GSX modded to run 10's Seriously though, if I had that cash to purchase a slightly more sensible car, I'd probably be looking at '07ish Subaru's, or try to find a deal on a used EVO VIII. I don't think I could go back to FWD, and the only RWD I will likely ever buy will be a classic mid 60's muscle car just to change it up I will also NEVER get rid of my DSM unless it's completely out of my control (i.e. wrecked) Mike

I've always wanted to get an M3 or an Evo once I sold my Spyder. That's what I did. Other choices were 911 Carrera (which was too small inside for the kids), or a CTS-V (I didn't have enough grey hair). I would love a Nissan 350-370Z, but it only has 2 seats.

I really shouldn't talk since my dsm has been down for years, but it's still taking up space in the garage, so I sometimes think if I were to replace it with another play toy it would be a tossup between a 335i hardtop convertible and an evo. Completely different cars, each with it's own appeal. In the mean time the G8 GT does summer duty.

Transmission has always been it's weak point and it's making more noise than ever now..one of the bearings is going. It's hard to find a nice 99 GSX... I also need a reliable car since I have less time than ever to work on it myself. I would consider stock rather than mods. Fuel efficiency would be nice to have as well.. unfortunately I just found out Subaru doesn't do very well in this aspect.

I picked up a C5 ZO6 after I retired my Talon last year and never looked back.
You can pick them up from the states for under $20K now. Tons of fun, RWD, 6spd and runs on 92octane. Not to mention the 27mpg on the highway. I'm driving a Miata these days. Tons of fun, RWD, 6spd and runs on 91 octane. Not to mention the 29mpg on the highway. Neener neener Ali!! (OK I'd rather be driving a Z06 ) To the OP, there are tons of great cars out there right now. They probably won't ignite the same level of passion as your DSM, but at least you'll know you're going to get where you intended to go. I'd suggest you don't limit yourself to AWD cars. With proper snow tires a RWD car is just fine year round.

Seeing as my Talon is my DD it's hard to say. If I were to replace it with another DD it would be something way more practical (4 door), comfortable, and luxurious, that being said, I have no money to look at anything right now lol.
If I had money, I would probably go for the 2011 Kia Magentis/Optima.

I ditched my Talon a few years ago for a 2005 Acura TSX. It's a decent ride, a bit under-powered. A 6-speed tranny is a must with that little torque though. The handling is pretty amazing and I can get 550km out of a tank. Overall, I am happy. I am thinking of replacing my wife shitbox Elantra with a 2010 Jetta wagon TDI or a Jeep Cherokee TDI. I need the space for 2 kids and diesel beats any hybrid.

Oil changes on the new Jeep are a pain in the ass, haha. You have to fill it up, start it, let it sit for 15 minutes, check the level, add more, and even if you don't add more, you still have to start it up, and let it sit for another 15 minutes. It's right in the manual, retarded.

Patriot is like that aswell. If you check the oil when its not warmed up and then settled again for ten minutes, its reads low. You just have to put in exactly what the manual says including the filter. The first few oil changes were pretty weird indeed. On the plus side you just have to slide underneath and theres a hole in the skidplate for the filter and drainplug. Makes for a pit-stop oil change.

Well, If you are willing to keep the car for a while and really need something reliable, I will say a low km evo 9 or an STi.
Might aswell invest into something long term, like an evo 10.
17,000 plus whatever you get for the DSM will get you something more than decent.

So far I test drove a 2008 Impreza Hatchback, 2010 Kia Forte Coupe, 2011 Ford Fiesta, 2011 Mazda 2, 2008 Mazda 3 Hatch, and 2008 Civic Coupe...
I liked the Fiesta the most so far. The best model (SES) is around $19,000+Tax and even at this price it has rear drum brakes, which really dissaspointed me. The power is also extremely weak, but given 5L/100KM I could make a sacrifice.
The Civic seemed to have the most power of all, very impressive for the tiny engine(not SI).. Handling was also very good. However visibility was very bad.. I really don't like the extremely thick a-pillars.
Still looking.. Maybe I'll find another Talon:)

I replaced my Laser with an 07 Eclipse GT back in January and plan to use the laser only in the winter. I got a good deal, it was basicly new (500 miles on it) and was up from the states. Got it for 19K. It's nice to drive, very solid with the wider stance and lots of torque. Not much faster than a stock turbo DSM though and lots of road noise.. my current project is adding sound deadening material to make it quieter. Still, very happy with it over all.
