I have a friend who got suckered into the lubrico warranty and now needs to claim on it.

quick and short->

Mazda 6 (v-6) smokes and knocks a little. needs an engine or rebuild.

anyone have a shop around the scarborough area (preferred) or anywhere in the GTA who wont take him to the cleaners.

Please post or pm me for me to call.

Would like to get it fixed asap.

Thanks in advance.

If he has the warranty he shouldn't be taken to the cleaners. Any shop can do it and they get paid by lubrico.

The 4G63 motor code is street shorthand for dominance. It's automotive Darwinism

ok. here goes.

he paid $800 for a warranty with a limit of $1500 total in repairs.

He got a quote for a used engine with 150k on it for $2500 plus another $1000 for install.

maybe i'm wrong but does that sound about right for a 2004 mazda 6 with a v-6 in it?

I didn't check how much used engines goes for but $2500 semms a bit steep and I'm thinking that you could do a full machine shop rebuild for less than that.

So in this situation Lubrico pays $1500 and he pays an additional $2000 plus small extras for a used engine with 150k on it.
In total then it would be $800 + $2000 for a used engine with 150k on it.

I feel like it's going to the cleaners.

Ps he bought this used car back in March and has driven only about 12k on it and now it needs a motor.

As I recall those engines had an issue with ingesting material from disintegrating pre-cats after 100K km, installing pre-cat elimitator headers early prevented damage. 2.5K sounds like a lot of dough for a used engine of unknown condition, but there is a good chance demand is high due to the failure rate. I recommend trolling the mazda forums for info. A rebuild is likely the best option, but the damage could be extensive enough for the block to be damaged which will raise the costs if a replacement is needed. I believe the engine is shared with some ford products - I would look into that as well before making a decision.
