Here's the deal. My tranny is coming out in the next couple of days. I don't want to do the work on it once it is out because I don't know enough about them. I know there are members who have shops and work on DSM's all the time. I want to give my business to members for 2 reasons. One to support fellow DSMers and two because there is a pretty good chance that members of the board are going to be familiar with the transmission. Who wants the job? Also any recommendations from people who know of somebody good or have had somebody do good work for them would be appreciated. If I had money I wouldn't care how much it would cost but being a student money can be hard to come by. (I guess that goes for anybody)
Thanks in advance

I think you may need to give people a little mre than 12hr's to respond to your post. Not all people live at this site. Expecially those who do sme work on DSM's. You post yesterday at noon, and then are upset that nobody has reponded to you less than a day later. With that kind of attitude I really wouldn't want to do work for you. That give's me the impression that you would drop the tranny off to me to work on it, then get a call 3hr's later asking me if it was done yet. I know you are anxious to get your tranny fixed. How about you start by posting what you want done. If somebody see's what is wrong with your tranny then they can decide whether or not it is outside of thier expertise and if they have time to handle the job. I read your post and the only thing's I accertained is 1:You think DSM tranny's are magically special and a transmission shop wouldn't be able to fix it properly.
2:You are broke and want it fixed for cheap.

I can do it, but you'll have to give me more than a 12 hour window to work on it laugh

I am sorry to those who got the wrong impression and who weren't clear on my post. I am relatively new to the DSM world and fairly new to this board. I have been spending a lot of time on the board seeing as work has been slow and I have had nothing else to do when I am there. Usually when I have posted in the past I have received replies pretty quickly and I guess I figured that would be the case with this post. I guess you could say I am addicted to this board. I have learned A LOT from it and there are some or rather all great people with great advice on this board. Anyways I will attempt to make my post a bit more clear.

It turns out that I am not even taking the tranny out as soon as I thought seeing as a rebuild is going to cost me more than I thought.

I guess I came across the wrong way before. I am not in a huge hurry and to whoever works on the transmission I would rather they take as much time as they need to do it right. I like things to be done right and I don't mind spending the extra time and money to do so. I was raised with that mindset.

As far as the problem goes. The tranny pops out of first gear and won't go in to first unless the vehicle is rolling forward. I am told that this is most likely due to worn bushings or a worn shift fork. As I said before I am not too familiar with transmissions so I am only going by what I have been told.

I PM'd you Nick when I got back from my trip to see if you were still interested in working on the tranny. I didn't receive a response so I figured you have been pretty busy. I will give you a call.

Thank-you everybody for your help so far and if anybody gets to meet me in person I hope that they learn I am not as annoying as the first post of this topic makes me out to be.

Does your tranny just pop out of 1st or are there other constant noises coming from it, does it grind, does the shifter move around in any gears. You can take a hollow tube and isolate some of the noises, if some of the bearings are worn they will wine at idle when hot. My tranny use to pop out of 5th, so I changed all the bearings and 5th hub assembly which needed it and it still poped out with no shifter movement because the syncro on the gear itself was worn. I have seen other trannies with shifter movement in 3rd and no 4th gear because the input bearing was so badly worn it would push 4th gear out of the way instead of engauging, there are many problems that can arise in trannies but if you have a problem you shouldn't drive it cause if something lets go there won't be much left. Good to see someone from Peterpatch I lived in Lakefield till I was 20 and still go there often to visit.
I have access to a complete 90' & 91' awd and 90 N/T and may have usefull extra parts, I can do the work and plan to visit Peterboro soon but its 4 hours away and it might take a week to do the work because there are usually other inturnal probs that come up and you might have to replace some bearings. You pay for the gas and parts and I might be able to work somthing out.
Parts you should concider.
1. 1st/2nd hub assembly $260 appox
2. 1st gear and the needle bearing with it?.
3. most other bearings $30-60 each, you'll probly need atleast 4 of um.
The 1st/2nd hub and gears I may have access to (used).
There are others on this board that are closer to you and more capable of doing the work, so use me as a last resort, if you want. Have you put the proper oil and amounts in it., tried cable adjustments.
