Watching the trailer for TFTF was enough for me Driven was an "OK" at best. Too much sighing over the blond chick and too much stereotypical bullshit. I could barely hear the engines over the dialog! Well, that's Holywood movies for you. They really want to appeal to wide audience and make money, instead of appealing to a small group of ppl.

TFATF is a horrible, horrible film. The ONLY reason I saw it a few times is the only reason I hope anyone sees it: the cars\races! The girls are butt ugly, the "acting" is a joke, the plot is dull and man oh man could the dialogue be ANY worse. Thankfully the Supra, Charger, Eclipse and RX-7 in action make the DVD worthwhile-- after all, you can skip to any scene The bonuses\behind the scenes stuff are the other reason to own the DVD of course. And Driven?! That's in the ranks of crap like Gladiator, Pearl Harbour, etc.

Oh man, I feel sorry for you Bobby. Taking some of the past years greatest films and calling them crap? That's just sad.
TFATF rules. Not in your "Gone With the Wind" classic kind of way Bobby, but because it's an adrenaline rush just watching it time and time again, and it's always great to see something you're interested in on the big screen.
Gladiator was amazing, one of my all time favourites. No wonder it won Best Picture. Pearl Harbor had a predictable, cookie-cutter "boy meets girl" story mixed in with a historical event, but that doesn't make the cinematography bad. Eg. Top Gun had a horrible story, but that doesn't make it any less of a classic.
Driven is good to watch for the race scenes, but that whole hour of footage where they aren't in the F1 cars just makes you want to puke.

What do you think I said? Cars\races! That = adrenaline. The precise reason I pointed out as to why one would enjoy such a film. I'm not being abstract with my point man. If you've seen Braveheart, you'd realize that there are, oh, say.. 5,356 plot similarities and they even used the same damn ACTORS for identical parts! The film is GREAT for ACTION, but it's nothing close to the drama or cinematic great that won it best picture. Besides, if you take what the Oscars are doing with film as the deciding factor, I wouldn't be surprised if you also believe the best musicians out there are the ones winning Grammy's and MTV awards. And Pearl Harbour?! A CLASSIC for its cinematography? That's ridiculous criteria. I guess the makeup and costume work in Planet of the Apes 2K1 makes it a certified classic too! You can't just go around labelling crap "classic" because you find it GOOD. Classic = Godfather, Shawshank, Clockword Orange, Pulp Fiction, etc.-- you know, films with people who can actually act and writing that is talked about for years. Either you're sniffing glue or you haven't seen enough great movies. Not insulting your or anything like that, Dan, but it's like the old gig goes; he who's never seen gold holds silver as prize; but once gold is shone he can't settle for less.

Wow, you get a bunch for your $24 bones on this disc!! Besides the flick itself (in DTS or Dolby) there's a ton of behind-the-scenes footage, special effects shoots (very interesting) and the usual stuff I expect like director's commentary and deleted scenes! And uh, for those of you who didn't like the movie that's fine... but please don't tell me you think it's full of "ugly girls" because Jordana Brewster is one sweet girl in my books!! http://www.terababes.com/jordanabrewster/jordanabrewster32.jpg

Hey, don't take it personally Bobby. Everyone's allowed to have their own opinions. All I'm saying is not to say that movies like Gladiator and Pearl Harbor were "crap".
There's basically 4 categories movies can fit into. Great, good, decent or just plain bad.
Great - Resevoir Dogs, Shawshank Good - TFATF, Gladiator Decent - Bullit, Driven Crap - Dude wheres my car, Mission to Mars
And I know Gladiator is WAY better than either of those two movies in the last category.

It gets harder and harder to make 'good' movies these days, because everyone is 'wowed' by the FX, sound and action. The bar is always lifted. It's hard to say a movie is bad these days, objectively...
And you watch different movies for different things. Who hasn't sat back with friends and a stack of 'B' Ninja or Horror flicks just to have a good laugh?
We got TFATF, and it's an awesome DVD. And Bobby, if the girls are ugly, you have to send me a picture of your gf... (: The ones in the movie weren't Swimsuit models, but were 'realistic', and the background girls were actually 'street racers' or their friends...

That's not true. You dont need a 20 mil and 50 FX engineers to make a good movie. Just take for example low-budget euro movies on Showcase channel.

What I meant, Victor, was that with all the high-budget FX, it's easy to let them overwhelm the story. And a large part of the audiences now *want* that kind of bang in any movie they watch.
"Twister" on a TV = Lousy "Twister" in a THX Theatre = Devastating (:
Heh. Nice 'rice' reference, Dave. It *has* to be a SoCal thing, but the cars become 'tasteful' for some reason. Probably like Keith's, because they're *so* well done. Anything short of that mark would just get laughed at.
And most cars that looked like that here in Canada, of course. (: Could you imagine the police attention something like that Supra, Eclipse, or RX-7 would get? (:

Thomas, I've had my Toshiba player since 1997, so it came with the earliest versions of software in it. After I had mine for about a year, I had a disc not play properly, so I took it to Toshiba, thinking it was worn out after going through about 500 plays. Thankfully it was still under warranty. Next day I got a call saying that it was ready, and all they did was update the software. The guy told me that if I have a problem again, bring it back with the disc that isn't working, and a note of what the problem is. Another year and a half later same thing. This time not under warranty, but they still updated it for free. It has to go again now because my Holy Grail disc keeps turning the subtitles on. Of course, It could always be something else.

I've only one dvd so far, Apocalypse Now Redux - great flick.
But I'll propably pick up tfatf just cause of the car scenes. The rest of the movie was pretty bad.

It was the floorpan, Brian, although the Wal-Mart one just sits on top of the floor. The one in the movie was a welded replacement. It was all just hype, trying to show that the air flowing underneath the car was violent enough to suck the thing out underneath. Pure movie hype. (:
