well its my first oil change on a eagle talon after 4 years, now i drained the transmission and put 4 more liters of oil in the engine. I did this sunday and drove the car untill today, needless to say the transmission doesnt want to change gears properly, i drove on the highway in second gear at like 100kmh. NEED URGENT ADVICE, the car is outside at my workplace, i bought 4 liters of transmission fluid, i have the tools necesary to work, i just dont know how to fill the tranny.
Thank you, Andrei

YOU PUT 4 LITERS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID IN THE ENGINE?!?! First of all, you DO NOT put transmission fluid in the the engine. It goes back into the Transmission. Second, our transmission only hold 2.3l (TWO POINT THREE) liters of fluid. For your sake, I really hope you didn't put that fluid in your engine. If you did, drain it and put the correct type / amount of fluid in the engine and the correct type / amound of fluid in the transmission.

These pages should help:
Changing Tranny Fluid on a 1G FWD (similar for an AWD)
Clutch Swap VFAQ (don't worry, you don't have to change your clutch, but about 1/3 of the way donw the page there is a good diagram of where the transmission drain and filler plugs are).
I'd have to agree that if you think you put the oil in the wrong place, you need to get it out of there ASAP.

noooo no no, what i did is i drained the oil out of the tranny thinking im draining the engine, then added an extra 4L of engine oil in the engine and bone dry transmission, anyway last night when i posted this what i did is i drained the engine of oil(not totally) and filled the tranny with Penzoil automatic transmission fluid, it seems to be working properly now, one question tho, Is the Penzoil Automatic Transmission fluid bad for this type of tranny ? asking because when i drained the tranny fluid by mistake the colour of the oil was black with a bluish hint to it, but it was totally black. And another thing, i searched this board for transmission fluid and i found that an auto tranny takes 3.8L of oil thats how much i put in, was that bad or what ? how much tranny fluid does it take ?

Hello.
Automatic Tranny Fluid is not good for a Manual Tranny.
Get some Manual Tranny at the Dealer or at a GM Dealer; They sell GM Synchromesh, might have changed the name for Delco Synchromesh. It should be a GL4 if I remember right.
Other option would be to get some Redline Manual Tranny Fluid. Some have use MT90 or the MTL while some have put a mix of MT90 and MTL with good results. Redline Tranny Fluid is also Red as Automatic Tranny Fluid. Having a Red Fluid in the Tranny helps in pinpointing a leak between the Engine and Tranny. Having said that, most Manual Tranny Fluid should be somewhat the same colour as Engine Oil.
Lots of option out there, whatever you do change it for a Manual Tranny Fluid.
Hope this helps.
Ghislain.

Well, I can't really understand what you did, or either your explanation isn't too right. One other thing that you should do, is remove the extra 4 liters of oil or transmission fluid that you have pour in the engine, you shouldn't have a total of 8 liters of oil in the engine, you should drain at least 4 liters if it was engine oil...

Four years without an oil change? Oddest post I've ever seen.
Anyway, not knowing what your car is, my 91 manual states:
Oil pan 4qt SG spec Oil Filter 1/2 qt Oil cooler(turbo) 1/2 qt
Auto transaxle DEXRON type Non turbo 6.4 qts Turbo 7.4 qts
Manual transaxle GL-4 75W90 or 75W-85W FWD NT 1.9 qts FWD turbo 2.3 qts AWD 2.4 qts
Transfer .63 qts GL-4
Diff limited or conventional .74qts GL-5
Two points. This is for my 91 Talon TSi FWD not your car whatever it is so the quantities may vary. And please note per other posts the GL-4 goes in the transfer and the GL-5 goes in the diff as it is more viscid.
And please don't wreck a DSM. The club needs as many of us running as possible. Change your oil and always the filter more often. Personally I go no more than 3 months unless I've driven a long distance in which case I change both sooner.
I apologize for not having the metric measurements.
Cheers Tony

Sorry,
Reread your second post after the shock of the first. As far as I can tell if the Pennzoil ATF is DEXRON and not Ford ATF you should be OK. Type 7176 according to my manual. It's been a long time since I was a licensed mechanic but I remember one or the other ate plastic transmission parts and you dared not confuse them. Beats me what's in our cars but my manual states DEXRON type not Ford type. Maybe the up to date techies can help.
Cheers Tony

I wish it were a joke, but unfortunately it is not, the car runs good now, thank god. the engine oil level is good now after i drained it and also the automatic transmission fluid is nice and clean redish colour, i am going to wait untill the weekend and do this whole thing over again, the right way this time. I one never changedo oil on an automatic car before, so i never expected the automatic transmission to have a pan totally similar to the one from the engine, so i just looked for the bolt and a pan then drained it, also when i saw the dark black substance that came out i immediately had no doubt im draining engine oil, after that the car wouldnt change gears anymore, so at work i asked a guy if he can drive to the gas station and get some transmission fluid so he just broght me some Penzoil automatic transmission fluid, at this point i was so mad that i have made a mistake like that, and i made another mistake i just replaced the fluid without knowing what type it is. i will make it a mental note to check out what kind of penzoil that gas station was selling. I cannot find anywhere what type of car this is so i just assumed that its a 2.0L 1994 eagle talon ESI i would guess ? anyway if you guys know a way to tell what type it is from the engine or somehow please let me know.
thank you,

ok as the story develops, seems that something did happen to the engine because it constantly leaks oil when its parked. Otherwise the car drives and runs fine. Any ideas why it would leak ?

If you add too much oil to an engine it can blow out seals because of airation (I dunno if thats spelled right ) anyway. How much does it leak and where is the puddle under the engine. Like what side of the car... front or back and stuff.

my buddy had a firefly for a beater, he added 2 liters one day because he drove the hell out of it, then the next day he added 2 more not remembering the day before he added 2, doing 150 on the 401 downhill with the wind at our backs the 3 cylinder, just went blah! oil everywhere, then no power, our speed dropped like a rock, good thing it was a 200$ car, and he didnt care, he had another firefly identical he paid 250 for so no problem lol. So hopefully you dont do this to your car, cause by the sounds of it you have over 8 liters of oil in the engine. Not good I wouldnt drive it, until to rectify that, hopefully the oil hasnt blown a seal and caused that leak maybe its just overflowing out of somewhere or some valve (I'm not sure what im talking about really lol)
