Why don't you just fix the problems. Its way cheaper than a lawyer and less of a hassle.
If it is such a small amount of money, why not rectify the situation and be done with it?

It seems a simple fit. No one wants to "fight" your grandparents. The just want their stuff and to find you because you had quit responding.
