I don't really understand your reasoning here. The 'rating' doesn't really have much to do with things. A guy down here was running 'Touring' tires during an AutoX, and they just rolled like nuts. Dangerous. I have cheapo 'wanna-be performance' tires, that howled, but did just fine last year. The speed rating on a touring tire can be high, but it's more the sidewall stiffness that makes the tire.

H? R? S? Pah. What you want is a 'Z' rated tire, ideally. Like having a Porsche 959 or McClaren F1 for your daily driver. Of course, practical considerations help prevent this. It sounds like what you're looking for is a mild performance all-season 'V' rated tire. That'll give you peppy handling, a fair ride, and be a little more quiet.

My choice for an introduction to performance tires would be the BF/Goodrich Comp TA VR4. Very forgiving tire, rides well, cheap, and good treadlife.
