I've got an appointment at Satan this afternoon for my leaking transfer case. Now it's leaking pretty badly and my question is, should the dealer have to at least topup the xfer case fluid at no charge until the new xfer case gets in or will they somehow try and charge me because topping up the fluid isn't part of the recall (even though the leak is FROM the defect in the xfer case which IS covered under recall)? Am I going to have to fight to get a new xfer case because this thing is leaking pretty badly? I don't imagine Satan will give me a new one happily? Thanks Guys Scotty

I've got an appointment down here in London in 1 hour. I'm hoping they'll top it up for free so I can get to TO to have it replaced.

I had similar problems and post a mssg here around two months ago. If you come to Toronto Scotty, go to Longman's Chrysler, and yeah talk to John Goddard. He's a super nice guy. I explained to him what happened to my car and I believed it is the x-fer case leak. So he checked up my car for free although it ends up it is leaking because of something else( that's what the mechanic said...) I don't think he'll charge you and fill it up for you before you actually do the recall. So just go and talk to him (he's the manager)
Feroz, there're many link about this x-fer leak recall problem online, try the link for the VFAQ, there are some good explanations with pictures there. Those oil are sort of green, in my case. Leaking just from the x-fer where the middle spinning thing attached to(don't know what it called).

..from the x-fer where the middle spinning thing attached to.. it's refered to as the YOKE. It's not actually the xfer case that leaks, its the brass plug in the yoke that fails causing the fluid to leak out of the xfer case. Due to this failure Daimler Chrysler released Recall #780 a few years back. There have been MANY discussions regarding the recall (and it's related info -oil etc...) on this board. Please use the search utility to read up if you have more questions or what actions to take

Nothing that a little JB weld cant fix.
Of course, you should have the recall done on your car before you do this.

Well, *apparently* it's not leaking. He even took me back there and showed me while it was up on the hoist. I swear the stuff I smelled (stuck my hand in it and took a whiff) was Xfer case fluid. The xfer was was full. Now not that I'm suggesting anything, but I have *NO* idea what went on but they wouldn't have topped it up before I came back to look at it would they? That would just be wrong! It's just all too strange that the fluid was right below the xfer case and smelled like xfer case fluid (I'll never forget that smell). Anyhow, just thought I'd update everyone Scotty
