Did my first 6 bolt swap on a friends car last weekend. The good news is it runs awesome and no real issues came up durinng the install. The bad news.........I was a f*ckin lazy ass and didnt order a new gasket for the front case when removing the balence shafts. (save the comments, I know, I know) So of course it leaks, not bad but it leaks none the less. Man, theres less than 1/2 an inch between the frame and the water pump pully. How the hell am I gonna take the lower cover off let alone redo the timing belt and case cover while the motor is in the car? Is it possible to just dissconnect all four mounts, lower the motor, and shove it towards the passenger side while having it hang from a hoist to get a few inches to work with? 2gers, please help.

Its possible, I just did my first 2G Tbelt about 2 weeks ago.
We had access to a hoist so that helped out alot. Just use the jack to raise/lower the engine accordingly to get the cover off.

Hey Im just wondering what method did you use for that 6 bolt? Cas Method, or the original RRE method where you have to drill in the block and tap it?

Theres endless amounts of info on how to so this on the net, just try a little searching. When you get stuck, come back and ask questions. I dont know what other tips to give, its pretty much straight forward and hard to screw up if you can read. www.magnusmotorsports.com www.roadraceengineering.com I also beleive there is a board or something called 2g in a 1g, or it could be one of those e-mail user groups, dunno, didnt need it. All I needed was the magnus wiring diagram, the rest was gravey.

Hey Im just wondering, do you have to use the 2g fuel rail and 2g FPR? I have an aftermarket FPR. Or can I just attach that FPR on the 1g fuel rail? I bought the JDM, and looks good with a red valve cover. Magnus diagram, what do you make the harnass out of? Do I use my 2g harnass and cut wires to use some of the 1g connectors? Im sorry if im asking dumb questions, I want to get this thing right the first time.

do you have to use the 2g fuel rail and 2g FPR If you have no means of controlling fuel or flow, you need to make sure everything was as before the swap, If the aftermarket fpr isnt adjustable, you need the 2g fpr. do I use method one or two? The answer to your question is in that article if you read it through. Its your choice, but you will have to do something different for each one, read it again. Do I use my 2g harnass and cut wires to use some of the 1g connectors? Its a real simple wiring diagram, dont make mountains out of mole hills, you dont have to "build a harness", its already there for you. Examine the diagram, extend wires if you have to, solder and tape it all up, done. Its stupid simple, they couldnt have drawn it any easier. Read those links through again, EVERYTHING is in there.

I finally got the tranny out, MAN!!! that passenger driveshaft was so damn tough to get out. I hammered that thing like no tomorrow, not even a budge. So, I took out the whole arm and discounted the brakes to get the assembly out. Alright, I have a oil cooler question. I know its where the oilfilter is, but how do I know I would be needing an external one? It seems like this JDM engine is a 92/93. Redcover, the CAS sensor is greenish. Thanks for the help guys.

My second question is, why does this JDM throttle body have one vacum hose? My 2g has 3 I believe.

How do I know if its an external oil cooler? What does that housing look like exactly. I looked at my 2g housing, it looked different. If its an external oil cooler, where would I find the external part to purchase so it will work?

Well, everything is complete, this is kind of my first time looking at every aspect of this engine. No need to be a smartass about it, I can follow instructions. I've owned a 2g with a 7 bolt not a 6 bolt before. So that should explain it. It was a simple question, it maybe common for you because you've done them before, but even you were a beginner, you have to start somewhere right.

It has two small little tube openings on the right side of the filter, there is no other attachments to it. The year of the engine is a 1993, I doubt its an external one.

Listen bud, just LOOK at the thing. Its real simple to tell. Either it has two metal hoses with beads on the end to connect to your coolent system rubber hoses like your 2g does, or it has threaded holes for bajo fittings which put the oil through an external cooler (rad like looking thing). Its not rocket science. Bigginer or not, you should have been able to figure it out by simply LOOKING.
Every one is a beginner at some point, but you are asking questons that lead me to beleive a swap is over your head. I mean no dissrespect.

I have never owned a GM car and I could stick my head under the hood and find the tranny cooling lines! Just by looking at it you should be able to distinguish between a water oil cooler and lines for oil to an external one BECAUSE oil lines have oil residue in them. I can follow instructions you need a touch more than just a sheer ability to follow! I have a feeling that this swap could result in disappointment and lots of headache!

Alright, I got the 2g mount installed and trimmed and did the timing belt. Now, the thermstate housing is different from the top. Do I swap it with a 2g, or a 1g US model?
