What's a good performance ECU for my NT? I went to the JET website and they sell new ones for $424 US. I know there are links for different sites from this site, but I'm wondering if people can recommend something out of experience or good word of mouth.

I called a wrecker here in Vancouver and they had a used one for $650 cdn. Seems pretty damn expensive considering a new performance one costs the same.

Save your money man... an ECU won't do squat for you.

Whats wrong with yours anyway? If its not working it might just be leaky caps. Get them fixed for a few bucks and put the ECU back in. Don't sped money on "performance" ECUs, if they ever exist for your application.

I explained my engine problem in another topic under HELP called "Engine problem...help!". People think the problem is the ECU caps, but i've been driving with the problem for over a year and now I fear my ECU may be shot. I'm having a guy check out the ECU. I'm just trying to get some feedback on what ECU manufacturers are good.

Amin - Where do you find an ECU for $200? The wreckers said $650 Cdn.

JET sells one for eclipse/talon for $424 US. They're website says you get a gain of 16 hp.

Man, for the amount they're charging you can convert your NT to turbo, including the price of a turbo ECU! Don't go NEAR that JET junk.

So not worth it for a performance ECU eh. Good thing I posted here. How do you get a turbo for $500 with turbo ecu??? Used?? I've always wanted to convert to turbo, but when I look at several sites that sell new kits, the price is $1400+ US. I haven't checked with the wreckers about used ones yet, but i heard i shouldn't get a used one because you don't know what the previous owner did to it.

Do a search for "turbo" in this forum and you'll find all the answers you're looking for.

With some digging around and scavenging for parts, you could do the whole turbo conversion for under $800 fairly easily.

$1400usd for turbo kits? Thats the stupidest thing I've ever heard... you can get a whole JDM 16G engine for that much and just drop it in!

OMG dude...600bux for a used ECU? they must be smooking some expensive sh!t.

Just use a regular used NT ECU. Put a WTB on the WTB section, there must be some ppl around with spare NT ECUs. I've seen some go as low at $150 (usually around 200 from the wreakers).

I dont think spending 400+ USD on an aftermarket ECU is wise..EVEN if thier claims of 16hp is true.

...for 400+ USD...hell u can buy a 50 shot nitrous kit..

hehe..$1400 turbo kits are for Hondas. The Integra GSR that I smoked on the track has a turbo kit that cost almost as much as my car.

300hp Talon to a 50hp Citroen. Lovely ain't it?
Back to another Mits.

Most of those 'performance' ECU's are piggyback to your OEM ECU. Hence, they work together.

You will not put together a Turbo kit for $500, guys, he doesn't have the knowledge as a DIYer yet.

Have you caps checked, if they are messed, replace them. If you can't repair post here to find a used one. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I think i'll scrap the idea of a new ECU. I heard from people (not from DSM club) that a performance ECU would help make things more efficient. I have a family friend looking into my car and i'm not sure if he's familiar with ECU things. He's had my car for over a week and still can't pinpoint the problem. It's one of those problems that could be causes by a number of things. He thinks the engine is running on two cylinders when the check engine light comes on. Putting the clutch in and pumping the gas pedal seems to bring the idle back to normal sometimes.

Is there somebody around Vancouver that can check my ECU for leaky caps or figure out what's wrong with my car?

Is this site for Ontario talon owners? I just realized there's a BC DSM club. But it doesn't seem as big. Maybe I can find somebody from that site to help me. I'll go back and forth between the two.

Check your ignitor and/or your coil pack as well. And while you are at it check your crank angle sensor.
