Maybe I'm shooting a little south of 'car show' but I need some paint/polishing tips if you guys have any for me.

One of the hinges on my gas tank door has rusted off and it sits really crooked, so I want to grab one from the junkyard and paint it green (none of my local junkyards have green DSMs).

I know to sand, prime, paint, clear coat but I've never actually done it before and for personal satisfaction's sake I want it to look half decent.

Any tips on how many coats of either, does it matter? I know when polishing metal you progress through the grits, but I probably just want something rough to take the paint off, right? Rust inhibiting primer? Do the 'exact dealership colourmatches' from CT really match?

Anything you can give me, thanks guys.
