I'd like to start off by saying that I know this type of group buy has been tried before in the past. I'm looking to purchase a 2G hatch in hopes of taking advantage of the strength in the Canadian dollar. I didn't just decide a couple hours ago to try and start this group buy, it's been about a half a month in the making. I wanted to make sure I could get as much information as I could before I posted this. I've been in contact with a representative from GTfabrications.com named Culver M. He's answered alot of questions that I've asked him about my group buy. I think I've covered all bases, so heres the information I have. Feel free to post questions you may have and I will forward them to him. COMPANY/Products; GTfabrications is offering hoods, hatches, doors, fenders, bodykits and other various pieces. They also have parts for other cars so this group buy is not just limited to DSMers. SHIPPING; I received a shipping quote to my address in Fort Erie, Ontario. If your not sure of where Fort Erie is, it's about 20 mins from Niagara Falls and boarders with Buffalo, NY. Shipping will be done with a custom built pallet that can hold 12-15 hoods and other small parts. The shipping quote I obtained was $700-750, which for 12 people works out to just a bit over $60, and for 15 people it works out to roughly $50. I just want to make it clear that this is just a quote, final shipping costs are dependant on the size of the order, overall weight, and size of the pallet. Another thing to consider in this is the additional costs of duties and taxes from Canadian customs. DISTRIBUTION; Once the order has been shipped, it will be coming to my mother house in Fort Erie. The products will be stored in a locked garage. Items are to be picked up in Fort Erie. Deliver is available at your own expense. If I have the time, I would be more then happy to deliver them to you with a small delivery fee. I would also be able to meet halfway to save extensive traveling times for members who live outside of the GTA and surrounding areas. I think it would be more beneficial to pick the items up yourself in case there is any complications with my delivery. I have a pick up truck and my mother has a minivan. I'm not suggesting I wouldn't use care with handling your products, I just don't want to be responsible for others on the road. PAYMENT; GTfabrications requires a 50% deposit up front. The rest of the balance will need to be paid when items are in stock and ready to be shipped out. I am considering opening a small account in order to recieve money, and transfer funds to them. CARBON FIBER INFO; Some information on their carbon fiber; -2X2 twill weave - aircraft grade -Clear coated -Rolled edges on hoods and hatches -Colours availabe; blue, yellow, red, orange and silver DISCOUNTS; I asked what kind of discounts were available for a group buy of 12-15 people, and these are the prices he generated for a bunch of 1G and 2G parts; -2G hood: $380 -2G hatch: $380 -2G doors: $1300 (pair) -2G fenders: $595 (pair) -1G hood: $380 -1G hatch: $295 -1G door: $1550 (pair) -1G fenders: $595 (due for completion in 02/08) These prices are for carbon fiber products, if you happen to see something on their website ( www.gtfabrications.com) that you would like to add as part of this group by, please let me know and I will gladly ask what the discounted price will be. I know this is alot of information to disgest, but I wanted to be sure I had all bases covered before I posted this so there would be no confusion. If you have additional questions, please contact me. I am looking for 12-15 people to get this going, but the more, the better. My contact information is; Email; Jay_P182@hotmail.com Phone; 289-407-2187 or PM I know there is one key thing missing to this, and that of course is pictures. I have requested photos of the products and they will be posted as soon as I get them. Thanks alot!

From their site:
1G Carbon Fiber Doors: RACE ONLY!
1G Carbon fiber Doors. Approximate weight 19 lbs.
Bolt on application. Windows require Lexan.
Roll cage highly recommended.
So, what is the timeline on this Jay? I would be interested in a 1G Hood and Hatch since the price is right. Now, are the holes for the rear spoiler already there or do you have to make them?

Hey guys, thanks for the interest and the questions.
GTfabrications has a policy where products are shipped and a signature is required for the package. If the package is damaged in anyway, I will simply contact GTfabrications, tell them the situation and not sign the package.
I don't have a set time frame, I am hoping before Christmas, but I understand people have other commitments with their money during the holiday season, so that got me thinking perhaps after Christmas (mid to late January).
The holes will have to be drilled to fit your spoiler Ryan, I could perhaps ask them to drill the factory holes if you need that done.
Thanks again guys.

That would be a good question to ask for both the 1 and 2G hatches.
I am interested in a hood at the very least, however I would wait until the new year to really get this going. Get a good base number of people to buy and then consider it in the new year. Money is usually tight for most during Christmas.
Possibly set a deadline for end of Jan/beginning of Feb?

I've tried to get as much information as possible before I posted this group buy, but I will continue to work with GTfabrications to smooth out details and ensure this group buy is successful.
For those who frown upon hotmail email accounts, please feel free to email at my school email address, (jp05qw@brocku.ca). I listed the hotmail account because I use it the most and it's the best way to get a hold of me in terms of emails.
Thanks!

I am ready to buy a CF 1g hood as well, so you can count me in as well as long as the quality is great. It would sure be nice to see come pics if they have any, of both sides of the hood and hood lock.

Murtaza- I would assume that the carbon fiber hoods/hatches, etc are 100% carbon. I will ask though just to be sure. As for delivery, I'm thinking like $20-30 to meet halfway. I don't mind driving it to London, but it is going to cost a bit more. I'm only going to charge the price of gas there and back. London will be a 3 hour trip for me, weather permitting.
Brandon- The colours they offer are the ones that are listed, but I can ask them if green is a possiblity.
Brian- I actually got an email from Culver (rep at GTfabrications), he mentioned he saw my post and he read that your looking for some VW stuff, he says he can get some things, so if your looking for something in particular, please let me know. This group buy is not limited to just DSMs.
Everyone that is interested in the 1g stuff, don't worry, they make it. He emailed me an inventory of 1G and 2G parts that they carry (I listed them in my original post) and it included hoods and hatches for 1Gs.

I am definitely in for a hood. We will have to work something out for meeting up later, as I am in Sudbury.

Another thing to possibly ask, for those on here who like to do custom work, is if you can get 12X12" sheets of carbon fiber, for making gauge pods, bezels, things like that.

Daren - I will look into the hatch cover and the spark plug cover that you mentioned.
Ryan - I will also ask if they can send sheets for the DIY'er.
Brandon - I emailed Culver at GTfabs and he said that they don't generally deal in greens so it would have to be ordered, rendering it more expensive then the other colours. If you are still interested, I can get you a rough estimate to work with.
I am hoping to get a list by the end of next week of people interested so I can get an idea of how many people will be ordering things. Once I know the amount of hoods, hatchs, etc people would like to order, I can start looking to get a better estimate on shipping.
Thanks guys!

I'm confused. The GTFab site doesn't mention 1G hoods (unless I'm missing something?)
So are they offering things to us that they don't have on the site?
If so, is the 2G hood as pictured on the site (vented) or is it something else?
Thanks

1. Jay Pham- 2g Hatch 2. Ryan Laliberte - 1Gb OEM Hood 3. Thomas Wong - 1GB OEM hood 4. Colin Shainline 1GB OEM HOOD
Thats the list as of Dec. 08. 2007. It's obviously not enough to get this group buy going, so if theres anyone else out there that is serious, add your names to the list. **This group buy will not take place until after the holidays**

I have talked to Jay, and have offered to pick up hoods that are paid for and bring them to a meet, or to my house in Georgetown. Georgetown is about 20 minutes northwest of Brampton. People could then pick them up from me, and save the drive to N.F. and save a delivery fee. If people like, they can install their hoods in my driveway, and I'll deal with their old hoods.

Looks like I won't be in this group buy anymore. My friend and I just recently got our 1gb CF hoods made here locally in Ontario. Took them 1.5 weeks to make them and I just picked them up yesterday. The quality is excellent, and I felt more comfortable seeing the product before I bought it Also Jay, I did not want to wait till spring. Just incase this group buy doesn't happen: I can assure all the guys who want one in this thread, that I can definately get one going and everyone will get to see the EXACT product they are buying, directly from the manufacturer before they pay for it in full. Eliminate the middle man and no need to worry about damage. Anyways as I said I can get into more details, IF this group buy doesn't happen. I can't wait to put this bad boy on in the spring

Yes, he makes them for 2g's and 1g's with pop-ups. He can also do hatches as well, but I would not recommend one of those for a sreet car. If I get enough interest and people, he will make 1g stock fenders in fiberglass as well. Now all those 1g guys can forget about fenders ever rusting again.
