I can understand that, but the seller owns a performance shop, and has had 9 DSMs. I felt comfortable buying it, because he appeared to know the cars rather well, and this was his personal winter vehicle. I didn't buy it off some random kid that happened to have a DSM lying around on cinderblocks in his driveway.

Okay, I spoke with him after work. He swapped the front differential from the previous tranny, to ensure that they match up, so I won't be having any transmission problems. Since he did take care of that properly, and said he would swap my motor free of charge, I'm going to refrain from naming any names, because he is being pretty fair about things. He also told me that my best bet right now, would be to get an Evo 3 motor, which would come with the big 16g and 510cc injectors, so I'm most likely going to go that route. My question at this point is, what type of MAF does that motor have? Should I use whatever MAF it comes with, and run it stock, or put on the 2G MAF and get an SAFC to compensate for the slightly smaller injectors?

It's the computer (ECU), injectors and MAFS that all must match. 550cc injectors are close enough to run a stock 1G ECU and 2G MAFS. With 510cc, you will still be a touch lean, and should still compensate for that with an SAFC. I doubt your JDM motor will come with ECU & MAFS, so there is probably no getting around the SAFC unless you go back to a 1G MAFS with 450cc.
Personally, I would use the 510cc, 2G MAFS and install an SAFC (or equiv).

Sounds good, I definitely don't want to end up running too lean again. Aaah.. curse my addiction to modding.. repairs always have a way of becoming upgrades somehow.

I bought my car for 3000 knowing it had a bad tranny, I used it as leverage to lower the price, thanks to Reza's previous posts and past experiences I learned what would match the final drive. There are many different trannies you can use as I said before. It is unlikly that you ruinied anything but the Viscous coupler in the tranny, it will eventually distroy your syncro's and bearings though. The rear diff could only have been swaped with a 3-bolt or a 4-bolt (where the axle bolts to the diff, more bolts are better). Anything else would have had the braces fabricated to make it work(not worth it for what we need). You do not need $3000 in tools, lets not scare him off here. I do all my own work outside year around if nessesary. You will only need a 10mm,12,14,17,19mm, sockets and wrenches, spark plug socket, a jack, vise and about a $150 in special tools if that. Borrow an engine crane when you need it. If you need a motor, tranny, pistons, head, than buy it, all are easy to change, and a stock 4G63 can handle close to 400HP with a good tune and the proper mods, I call that pretty reliable. If you want to open up a performance shop than maybe you will go and spend $3000 on tools, and then you just need a garage and a lift. edit: if he did swap the centre diff you should be able to tell by the silicon and marks on the tranny bolts that hold the halves together.

Antonio, you already claimed responsibility for blowing the motor, AND the guy is replacing yours, right? Doesn't give him a bad rep at all, probably the opposite. As for people thinking DSMs are pieces of sh!t, well, anything can break without receiving proper attention. Cars, marriages, computers, everything. You just need to pay close attention and beware the signs! Oh, and be sure to take proper advantage of the wide variety of information available here and on other DSM sites. It can save you TONS of money at the cost of a little reading time.

He said he swapped the front diff, not the center, and that it is the 4 bolt rear end. It didn't really mean anything to me originally, but now it does. The guy's name is Jason from Vindicate Motorsports, and he's been very patient with explaining everything to me while I freaked out. There were a few misunderstandings about the car originally, but he always picked up the phone, or called back within like 30 min, so everything got sorted out. I will be taking my car there for future upgrades, even though it's hella far from where I live.

Never heard of Vindicate Motorsports, is that a new shop or something?

Uhmm... frack... Yea, that's the guy. Should I still take him up on the free labour for the swap, or is he that bad?

Yeah, Antonio, stay away from Jay as per the thread above. You said "Vidicate Motorsports" and I went "Oh sh!t"

Eep... Okay... Should I attempt the swap myself then? I've done a few Nissan swaps before, but I would definitely be learning as I go on this car. Or can you recommend a shop or individual for me to take the car? I paid someone for my first motor swap, but under the condition that I take part in it, and I ended up learning enough to swap a friend's car a few months later, so ideally I'd like to do something like that again. Is there someone like that on here? I would also need a motor, since I had intended to get that off of Jay as well.

If you've done an engine swap before, a replacement shouldn't be any trouble for you.
You'll lean a LOT pretty quickly if you do it yourself, as well.
Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!

The other thing that just occured to me, is I do want to get someone else to look at my tranny. If he's not to be trusted, he could have easily told me that he took care of it just to get me off his back. I'll pm Helder Daponte. Is he in the GTA? Also, what's a good place to get a motor?

Haha, +1 for Helder once again.
"always fixing other peoples mistakes". "4GD motorsports."
mental note to self. dont buy a DSM from a nissan forum.
Aaron haha, I got mine off there too.. thats why I had so many problems with it.. & don't buy a car with a plate starting with a B, they recently came out with those.. Why selling so fast.. B is for bait Is it just me.. or is there a bolt missing bottom left where the turbo mounts to the manifold..

It's welded Another case of me not checking carefully enough before buying the car. *sigh* I always rush into every major purchase.

Okay, so I'm going to start looking for an engine on my own. If I decide to go with an Evo 3, which parts can I re-use from my car? Will my current ECU run it provided I add an SAFC to compensate for fueling? What about ignitor, etc...?

If I'm not mistaken, you could just put your injectors back in the EVO rail, and all the other 1G sensors that work with you ECU and wire harness.
I don't know what CAS it uses, Coil pack, MAF, ISC, TPS or transistor but there shouldn't be a problem in swaping your old ones in it, it is the same block.

First good news since I got this car. About the injectors though, doesn't it make sense to keep the larger 510cc than revert to my stock ones?

Sounds good, is there any particular place/person that is a good source of motors? I know most forums have a few people that deal pretty heavily in importing, so I figured there should be one here as well.
