Hey guys, looking to buy a second gen Talon, needs to be TSi AWD and manual transmission. Looking for one that has been maintained well, and that still has a lot of life left.

Thanks

I like it very much, but I'm a bit iffy on it as it's a rebuilt engine and turbo, and a bit pricey, other than that, it looks great.

it's going to be difficult to find a DSM withOUT a rebuilt or swapped engine just to let you know.

i would prefer to have a rebuilt/replaced motor actually.

Grant: Really? Why do you prefer one that is rebuilt?

And when it says rebuilt, is it rebuilt to the same specs with oem parts or is it a totally different engine? Can't these rebuilt ones be less reliable? Sorry I may be misinformed and have a lot of misconceptions frown.

I don't know.. the Kijiji ad has a way of contacting Jay.. I'd get ahold of him, but AFAIK, it's in mint shape..

Going by the ad you say that 6900 for a 97 is pricey great just what we need.
If you want a $3000 car go and get a $3000 car, but don't expect much.

You get what you pay for, spend more and have less of a headache. Look the car over few times before you buy. Try to buy a car with no mods or very few mods. I paid 33,000 for my car and still very happy with it.

Tim & James: For all I care a 40,000 dollar worth Talon could be selling for only 15,000, and I still wouldn't buy it because it is out of my price range.

Paul: I would definately prefer a car with no mods or very few mods, but most of the ones within the GTA and within a 200,000 km radius are modded. I could however buy an esi that is stock, but it's not what I want smirk.

Tudor, when you ask people for "help" (advice) in choosing a vehicle, at that point your budget becomes their business. If you are unwilling to say what you want to spend, then don't ask other people for their help.

And "you get what you pay for" doesn't ALWAYS apply. You RARELY get MORE than you paid for, bit it is not at all uncommon to OVERPAY for a pos....

Ziggy: I fully agree with what you're saying, but I didn't ask for help in choosing a vehicle, I asked specifically for their opinion on Jay King's car, and they definately don't need to know what I'm willing to spend to give me their objective opinion about a vehicle.

Tudor, they are only talking about price because you indeed must spend a fair bit if you want one

You pay when you buy it, or after you buy it.
I think the DSM that was suggested fit your initial criteria. It was you who first said anything about price, no? smile

LOL, you're right Rob, it was just some miscommunication, I said pricey as in the car doesn't fit my price range, and they understood it as my devaluating the car. Should have said it is out of my price range from the beginning and their wouldn't have been miscommunication on either end.

Let's get back on topic here though, can anyone give me an objective opinion about Jay's car? Or how his rebuild went?

I am pretty sure Jay has that car sold. I think it is being picked up on Saturday. Jay called me last night for some parts he wants to include with it for the new owner...

I don't know the car itself, but would certainly vouch for Jay as a person!

Check out Kijiji for some vehicles. I know of a 1998 Talon in Perth that is in pretty good shape, I think he's asking $5700 for it.

Yeah, so I still haven't found one, I checked out like 5 of them so far, 3 of them being in horrible condition, don't even know how they are still running haha, 1 is extremely modded and decided against it (I would prefer something more stock I guess), and the last one was checked out by my mechanic (thanks Ziggy!) who said I should keep looking.

Yep, just keeping you guys updated, and bumping my topic

I feel like crap frown really looking forward to being the proud owner of a DSM though!!!

Thanks for the offer Miguel, is it the one in your profile pic? Because I've seen pictures of that and that is ONE SICK TALON! I definately would if I had the money but right now my budget is limited at 5k and MAYBE a bit more if I can scrounge up extra money somehow, it also depends on the car right? I also prefer something stock since I want to learn to work on these cars, that's actually the reason I want a talon, for the love of working on them.

If it's not too modified maybe you can keep things you can resell and maybe we can work something out for around 6k, but I think that's going too much below your price, so I can understand if you don't wish to.

Thanks for the offer again though!

You can also look for JP Siouti, he has a 1998 TSi AWD in MINT shape, very reasonable pricing too.

Get ahold of him.

There's a black 5-speed 96 TSi AWD in a used car dealership at the corner of Steeles and Torbram in Brampton. I took a quick look at it. The interior looked nice and the underside didn't look to have too much rust. That was the effect of the observation I had. It had about 190k on it. Everything looked stock about it. The lot wanted $4300 but I'm sure $4k cash would do.

Ryan: Thanks, alright I'll pm him

Tim: Yeah, I checked that one out actually. It was in HORRIBLE condition, they replaced the metal plating on the engine with a hyundai one that wasn't even bolted on properly, and the engine bay was really messy. Then I test drove it since I drove all the way there anyway, and WOW, I could hardly put it in gear, and a lot of other bad things, can't quite remember exaclty since I saw a few other cars, but my impression was I wouldn't take it even for 1 grand because that car felt like it was going to break on the way back home, it couldn't even accelerate better than my civic si!

But thanks for keeping an eye out for me either way.
