Troy you are on the rite track...Most FE vehicles when in WOT go into flood mode, stopping injector pulse.

I didn't realise this thread was still going!

Opening the throttle while cranking isn't going to dump alot of fuel in because the computer knows your cranking the engine, there is little air flow, and the rpm's are low. Most ECU's have a cranking/injection table they use which dictates how much the injectors are fired during cranking based on the air temp.

Essentially you want to stop the throttle plate acting as a choke...anybody remember the good old days with cable actuated choke?

As for fuel economy...

city: 14-15 L/100km
highway: 8-9 L/100km
(I just did a Toronto-Owen Sound round trip of ~420kms on 3/4 tank)

In the summer time, I run 10 L/100km in the city if I'm off the boost when accelerating. On the boost...well, I don't bother looking. Cold weather compensation could be running the car richer. Stay out of the boost (pull the WG actuator off) for a tank or two and see where your consumption is. wink

To update.

My fuel gauge is screwed. I drove on empty for a good 50km's and it didn't throw the light on.

Most I've put in so far was 40L of gas, and the gauge was on empty.

I'll have to check that out when I get a chance.

Ya, your gauge is way off.

Just fill up completely, set your trip and then refill every 300 kms. You'll never have a problem then.

My car does that same thing. I feel like I can drive on empty for ever until finally the fuel light would come one. Try this at your own risk however.

I don't plan on going anywhere long distance over the next little while, so I'll probably just not fill up until the light comes on.

And keep a $20 in the glove box just in case. wink

I know this may be more work, but it's a more accurate way of measuring gasoline consumption of your car.

reset the trip meter after every fill up to full tank. calculate fuel efficiency from how much you put into the tank and what the trip meter says.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but I've tracked EVERY tank of gasoline I've burnt for the past year or so and intend to continue doing so. It keeps me more informed about my driving habits and how my car is doing.

Well, update on this. My gauge is DEFINITELY screwed. I drove almost an hour on empty, I don't think the gauge could get any lower.

No light, I filled up and put 47.7L in.

So, the next step... fill up the tank, and fill a container of gas... Put said filled container in trunk, reset trip, go for a trip smile till the car runs out of fuel...

Now you'll know if the near empty tank light will come on rather then near empty gauge light, and if so, how long till you actually run out of gas
