keep in mind. I am well aware that a car is only as good as it was treated previous.
I owned a 93 talon for years was a great car very reliable, modded to the point where i was running out of things to do lol. But alas, a meeting with a dodge ram @ an 80 km intersection ruined all that.
Fast forward to today. I recently purchased a 97 eclipse GSX. 6 bolt swap and lowered. car is quite sound, not many known issues were jumping out at me when i bought it. I get it home and decide the first thing I am going to do is complete energy suspension poly bushing swap. After several hours of fighting with axles and bearings, i ended up having to replace a couple axles and a couple bearings due to siezed splines. ok, fine. its a thirteen year old car.
So i take it for a spin and it starts spewing power steering oil over the top of the reservoir. after trying to bleed and refill bleed and refill, I pull back the bellows on the rack, full of fluid.... crap. ok, fine. its a thirteen year old car.
After rebuilding the rack and reinstalling it, i take the car for a spin.... again. my gf and I dont get a block from the house and i can feel this god awful noise beginning to rap off the floorboards. bring it home, jack up and spin, sounds like t-case. maybe its just my car in particular but I am feeling like i may have made the wrong decision going 2G.
wondering if anyone has opinions on this.
Speaking from experience, 1g>2g.

Well I may be biased, since I have never owned a 1G, and am on my second 2G, but that really just sounds like a string of bad luck you've been having, as $hiTTy as that may be. I don't believe that power steering racks or T-cases are "common" replacement items on a 1G or a 2G, but seized axles are somewhat common on the 2G's from what I've experienced. I've found that just by simpling cracking the axles nuts every year and making sure I can move the spline of the axles in the wheel hubs, I avoid any of that happening to me now. I feel your pain though Jamie, I've had a couple bad strings of luck over the past 8 years (all previous car), where it felt like the universe just wasn't aligned for me to own that car and have it be reliable Good Luck

Biased as well, due to not owning a 1g, but from all the reading I have done, it doesn't seem to be a overwhelming amount of 1g is greater than 2g or 2g greater than 1g.
Just had my 2g a year and a half, pretty much pure stock, 90k miles, and nothing has gone horribly awry...other than the oil feed line splitting right by the turbo...oil everywhere! Luckily I was still in my garage...
Anyways, as much as we hate how things can come down to which one is more visual appealing, I believe that is the case for the DSMs. If you like the lines of the 2g, get a 2g. If you like the lines of the 1g, get a 1g. Either way you go, it will be pretty much the identical path.

Sergio, no offense, but if you're complaining about your 2g with rusty strut towers, then why did you buy it? Haven't ever heard about anyone really complain about their OBDII connection either?
Like anything, you get what you pay for. If you got a 2g for $2000, then yeah, it won't be perfect.

I had my 1995 for the past 9 years. I like the thing; has a nice style.
When it boils down to it I still prefer the 1Ga's look. Red Talon with the Black Wing is where it's at.
1G are suposed to be "faster". I also prefer the 1G ergonomics.

Its all about the previous owner of the car if that cars been beaten on then once you get it its gona give u problems like my did but that dosent realy means the car is better or worse more of the previous owner. And when it comes to 2g rust i can go under my car with out having a spot of rust anywere on the under body or even shock towers. I think the main thing with a dsm is not to buy and sell them stick to one and get it running right. I couldn't agree more. I received my 2G with a lot of small issues but because I stuck with it and didn't give up the car is becoming more and more reliable and since I know what has been done 100% instead of what someone told me they did, I know now that if anything goes wrong its my own fault and the only person I can blame is my self. I won't give up on my 2G because hands down it's to me the best looking car out there and can deliver some impressive power(I mean 2g's in general not just mine lol)

I like the body style and interior design more on the 2G, BUT! I like the leg room and head space that a 1G gives you.

True, I really need to get a smaller wheel to fit my spider legs...head space I find just about perfect...but then again, my legs are longer than my wifes, but she has a longer body (I'm 6'2, she's 6'1) When we are both sitting on chairs besides each other, she's taller than me

I notice my knees are almost touching the dash, and my head has maybe an inch from the headliner. If I do my hair, it rubs on it. I am 6'

I'm a 2g fan, but then again I've never owned a 1g (want to someday though, but I'm thinking a laser just to be out of the ordinary :P). Styling on a 2g is just beautiful, curvy and aerodynamic. 1g looks like a wedge IMO, it's still nice, but it doesn't have that look of endless curves.
On the engine side, considering most 2gs get a 6bolt transplant, I'd say point to the 1g. They're also lighter (the 1gs) if I 'm not mistaken, same power (if both have the same turbo) less weight on the 1g = faster. Although it's probably not something hugely important, I like the 1g seatbelt system XP. It really goes to personal preference considering most things can be swapped from one to the other. The only thing left different is the styling, both interior/exterior, and the main chassis.
So performance wise, I'd have to ask someone who owned both, which handled better pound for pound assuming both had the same suspension set up, since interior and exterior styling are personal preference and engines can be swapped.

I've been in a 1gb and a couple 2gbs. I prefer the ergonomics of the 1g, and yes the styling is purely preference, but from what I've observed, most of the go fast guys have 1gs. I love my 97 tsi, even though she's down. She's down because I didn't have the money or resources to get her up properly. Other than some "minor" problems that are blatantly obvious, I think she's very reliable. No "gremlins" as of yet other than complete break down, because I didn't take care of the rear main seal from the get go. Car was maintained fairly well by the previous owner. She started right up, first crank, after sitting for 3 years! Minimal modifications to the car mind you, but they did a number on the interior and wiring. Stupid blinky strobe lights and "switches" for the strobe lights. God. Edit: shock towers were repaired by Chrysler Canada with previous owner, still rusty in my opinion, and there's a good sized hole where rust ate right through the rear left of the car in the trunk by the wheel well, so I can see through to the ground.

Yeah I have a '96 AWD with grey leather interior, and they are pretty sweet seats! Probably weigh about 50 lbs each, but screw it I previously had a '95 with grey cloth interior, and even those seats were pretty good from an adjustment point of view (same 6-way adjustable power), but the cloth ripped pretty easily.

I thought the adjustment for the power seats and manual seats were the same?
Guess not.
Yeah, I lowered the seats in my car and it was TOO LOW.
Had to raise it a bit.
With your height, I think it would be exactly what you're looking for Anthony.
