Well, I'm sick, coughing up a lung, so figured I'd post some progress on this little idea I had and needed to execute. Got a Scanmaster and wanted it to be integrated to the car. Don't like seeing a whole wack of things loose and out of place. I also wanted to see it easily and have it at my disposal all the time. This one took a little patience while taking apart the Scanmaster and having fun with the circuitry to figure what does what. Don't want to kill it, so test first! I also didn't want the original buttons (they made the mount ugly). So got myself some black switches (had them from my earlier stealth boost controller switch I did a while back) So the parallel connections to the switches on the scanmaster: Made everything nice and neat Next step is to connect the parallel connections to switches mounted on the interior of the cluster trim. CAREFULLY (and take your time if you do this) carve a hole for the Scanmaster screen. Of course, I needed to take measurements before on where I wanted it, how wide etc. Just take your time. Now it's not finished still have to install a transparent screen to protect the interior from dust and finish the outside a little more (I'm not leaving it with just the cut, it's not clean enough for me). This will be continued

Scanmaster is a unit that gives you a wack of info on your car. Think this is all, might be a little more, haven't had the chance to test everything yet. CEL codes are a nice add though http://www.turbotweakstore.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=1007-SyTyIt's not a police scanner I know I'm in Brampton, but I'm no hooligan lol

Fairly basic.
Scanmaster 3 Cluster trim out of the car (it's just a couple of screws and wires to disconnect) Multimeter to test the circuitry Wires (different color, could have used 4 different ones, but I was ok with just two sets with red/black each) 2x momentary on/off switches (black in preference to match) Soldering Iron (with small tip for circuitry) to solder your connections Shrink wire insulator (to make the project clean and safe) Dremel and assorted bits (I used carvers/sanders) Drill with drill bit the same size as the switches you're using Vacuum to clean the mess you made Think that's it.
I might be making a "How to" on tuners that will be more detailed in the future.

Finally came around to finish the mount with the plastic cover for the hole. Figured I'd update this ^ Shows where the two buttons are mounted to control "Mode" and "Recall". Not fully finished as I want to make it smooth with the dash trim and add a little visor for the sun but, in essence, it's functionally done Also finished my turbo timer mount in the vent piece, fits beautifully and looks stockish: And fixed my trim that was hanging all over the place :

Yo G, I didn't see that huge vent when I first looked, my car doesn't have that, I have never seen that before.
Interesting!

Nope, guess again It was stock on most Eclipse/Talon/Laser both 1g and 2g that had a couple options (most cars with packages got this as an upgrade). You'll see that no matter if you have the vent or not, you have 2 screw holes under that dash trim for the driver that enables you to have it. It was in the plans for the car, but only some cars with option crazy owners got it. Keeps your crotch nice and cool LOL Pretty worthless though, reason why I modded it.

Not the one where the turbo timer is now. I am talking about the massive vent that is in the panel. Also just realized the whole panel looks totally different! Is there something there above the trunk release? Durrr, after rereading your tech article I realize that panel is from a 2g.

Yeah sorry, I said hood release in my head but still wrote trunk for some reason. I am going to see if I can find a picture of what my panel looks like. Maybe it was a laser thing.

Yeah the one on the left side, the one you have up on tuners. Plus my panel doesn't go that low on the left side either

So I think it might be a 1gb thing, I am looking at my FSM for 90-91 and it looks like the one I am describing.

It definitely look like one, but I can't think of what speaker would be there in either car.

It's not for the speaker no, just a vent. Ugly one too, never quite understood why they made it on a slant. It's making one of my projects on the 2g a pain in the a$$

Yeah it's a weird design. On my 2g there's nothing behind it either, just the wiring. Might be that I'm missing ducting but it's definitely a vent opening of some sort, at least from what I've gathered.
Johnny, the only downside to mounting the turbo timer is extension of wires. That's why I kept mine as close to the steering wheel as possible as it connects directly under it.
