Hot rod status only counts for displacement changes.
Engine management junkie.

Good luck guys. The hot rod status is not as easy as you think now. You will need to go to the ministry and provide proof and show receipts that you have changed the motor to a bigger displacement one. Who knows what they will put in the system after that in regards to your vehicle.
They have cameras in the e-test bay now that takes pictures of your vehicle and sends it to the ministry. I believe, fail it 3 times and your car is pretty much doomed. First time you fail, you will no longer be able to sell the vehicle. It must pass in order to resell. They will do a visual for a cat and mods. If the car is modified, the e-test place is directed to call the ministry on the spot and report it. Big cams and full exhaust will probably make you fail.
They will still do a snifer tests on the 1g's. Mess with your DSMlink while the e-test is happening and it will fail.
If your car is going to fail, you pretty much need to know a shop that will help you out now.
Good luck!

Good luck! How is that possible? You fail the test if the readiness checks are not complete. Eg, recent battery reset. Brand new cars were having that issue. And does that mean you cannot buy a car without an engine or not running? Thank god, I guess my car is grandfathered into the hotrod category. My buddy recently had his truck registered as a hotrod under the new rules. He had to fill out registration paper and take picutres and send it in for approval. (S10 with a 350, slammed with rusted body) And he seemed to get the status changed without hassle. I will let you guys know in the spring how I make out
Stock.

You're lucky you got your car grandfathered into the hot rod category. Not like I have tried, but it is not as easy anymore. I know of a few guys who failed instantly while playing around with DSMlink while their 1g's were being tested. Helder took his in for an e-test and they called up the ministry to report the car as modified. Nonetheless we got it to pass the next time around.
I am referring to the 1g, OBDI cars here, not OBDII.

Nothing has really changed if you have a '97 or older. So I'm not sure what you guys are worrying about. I can see why they wouldn't let you tune on the fly during the test. Compared to the original sniffer test, a lot has changed. The ministry demands a large number of pictures to be taken during the procedure, and has live access to a camera at the testing station (though they won't necessarily use it). Tuning on the fly is probably out of the question, unless you're friends with the shop. Sniffer tests are pretty easy to get through though, so I agree with "fix your problems". A conditional pass can give you some extra time to do so.

When did this whole live camera become a thing?
Sounds like it's time to move up north. I believe it was when they "upgraded" to the new system. I only found out about it last May when I was trying to get my Talon through.

Worst comes to worst, all you'd need is a stock exhaust with a couple cats welded in place, right?

when I Got my 97 tested last year..
They drove it in.. stuck the sniffer in the tail pipe. Took some pics of the door panel, the plate,. and the dash Vin. Tested the gas cap..
Ran the test at idle.. then ran the test at 2000 rpms. Never opened the hood, never looked under the car.
Passed flying colours! High performance cat, 3 inch exhaust, Wideband running narrowband simulation.. dsmlink v3 fully active with SD.. AND running the thresholds in tuning mode!
They said they dont look under the car cause if it dosent have a cat then it will probably not pass anyway. And Said they dont car whats under the hood. If there is a differant motor then what came with originally, then it will either run cleaner then the original.... and be fine! Or it will run worse and fail.
Took My 04 GMC Envoy in.
First I asked him if a engine light on for a bad thermostat will fail the test. He said yes! definatly! Any light on the dash will most likely fail it.
I had to replace the thermostat, and then clear the code, and drive around for a day or 2 to re activate all the readyness signals, or whatever they are!
Then He plugged the truck in to the computer.. took some pics and it passed.
