The Quebec incident..apparently the shooter was KNOWN to intelligence people....
but how do we deal with it? We go talk to his parents and ask them to keep an eye on him.
Why don't we videotape him being beheaded and send it over to the middle east? In fact, why don't we send over the actual head, packed in pig's blood?

This is some crazy stuff in Ottawa.
I remember during 9-11, I was working at the East Memorial Building at Lyon and Wellington (Ottawa downtown).
Armed soldiers came in, we were escorted out, and I went home while the zone around Parliament was locked down and evacuated.
Looks like the initial victim was from Hamilton.
Never understood the extremist mind...it deviates from all logical being.

Why is it acceptable for these innocent people to die, especially in service of their country, but all we can do to the perpetrators (until they actually perform the deed---even though we KNOW they are leanting towards something like this) is take their passport and ask their parents to keep an eye on them?
Wouldn't it be more acceptable for some of these "questionable" people to have their "civil rights" violated, than to wait until they kill innocent GOOD people?

Yeah, but where does taking civil rights away become acceptable? That's there main issue I believe. You don't want it to become a police state where the people have no say in their defense. I for one am all for people under this type of investigation to be deported or left there to begin with. You do a jihad or whatever it may be that makes you think all other people are not worth the life they have been given...you get the JOYFUL deportation to your place of worship...AND STAY THERE! All they need to do is make a law about this specific case. Any extremist act is prelude to deportation.
Why bring them back in the first place? If you go do something like this...there's a reason. You're most likely brainwashed. So why would Canada take you back knowing you'll be doing something to the population? It's simple, effective and they can continue to mutter idiocies in their own little world away from Canadians, and by that I mean true Canadians (i.e. not here to kill other citizens). Since they are followed when they do this...it's easy to determine who get the joyful news of a ban from Canada...for life.

As long a you "belong" in a place, you're never truly free Mike. Free is something I don't think ANY of us have ever experienced. Laws are made so people get along, but is also a negation of a freedom in a way. Not trying to be all pedantic, but in essence free truly means that, no rules, no expectations, no repercussions etc. Which of course would only work if people had built in ideologies that just made us act nicely and politely onto others without thinking about it. In this world we are never truly free to do what we want. We NEED to do things to survive. So to me the word free only applies to not paying for something, being free is not something I see myself getting until I take my last breath.

Name calling won't do much good here Reza...Don't really see why this is necessary. I'm french and Canadian last I checked I'm not a scum frack In either case, he's born in Canada and converted to some form of Islam per the news. Hence why I said specifically, if you do anything extremist that can potentially harm Canadians...you're out and sent back to where they caught you learning how to be extremist. Simple as that. No reflection to where you are born or what religion you have etc. As it's this ideology that's the problem, the brainwash. Not the religion (as I don't want to start a whole debate on religion), only the ideology of thinking everyone else deserves to die. Which we can all relate to as I doubt anyone here thinks killing others is acceptable.

Just to clarify some of the things mentioned in here: Born in Quebec on 16 October 1982 as Michael Joseph Hall, Michael Zehaf-Bibeau grew up in Laval, just north of Montreal, and is said to have attended private schools.
The Canadian news channel CTV News named his mother as Susan Bibeau, the deputy chair of the immigration committee at the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada. CTV also reported that his stepfather, or adoptive father, is a Libyan businessman, Bulgasem Zehaf, who once owned a cafe called Café Tripoli and appears to have fought in Libya in 2011, according to the Globe and Mail . The couple divorced in 1999. Zehaf-Bibeau stayed at a homeless shelter in Ottawa for some days before carrying out the Ottawa attack. Residents at the Ottawa Mission described him to the Guardian on Thursday as steely and quiet.
“He was handsome but his eyes were cold. Now I know why,” said David Duchesne, who has been at the mission for about a week. Tenants, most of whom did not want to be interviewed, reported that he Zehaf-Bibeau stayed at the mission, which provides resources to help homeless people get back on their feet, for about two weeks.
Duchesne said he hardly spoke to anyone, but he did not stand out from the other tenants. “He didn’t really divulge anything about his life,” Duchesne said. “He gave us no information except for the fact that he was pissed off at Canada because they held his passport and put him on a no-fly list.”
Duchesne said Zehaf-Bibeau was a practicing Muslim, and that tenants saw him pray five times a day and wash his feet regularly. All from here and also other sources that I've read as well: http://www.theguardian.com/world/20...t-michael-zehaf-bibeau-canada-parliament

No worries, now for some good ol' poutine As a side note to all this, both Rouleau (the guy who ran over 2 soldiers in Quebec) and Bibeau followed the same Pro-ISIS twitter account (again...another reason for me to hate twitter ). Which underlines the same extremist group. Which, although probably wasn't coordinated, was definitely the ideology of the group.

You should really blame the US. They created, funded and supplied ISIS for years and now this deadly group has gotten out of control and its proving difficult to destroy them. Similar to how the CIA created Al Qaeda, except these guys are the new Al Qaeda 6.0. I am sure everyone agrees that they need to be destroyed, but don't be blind to the fact of how this group was created

Although the USA has meddled around the world, I don't think they are completely to blame. The fighting in the middle-east has been going on for a lot longer than the US has existed. Ottoman Empire is the best example I have. Now what the US tried to do is stabilize or influence the area for various reasons, not the least of which is $$ driven. There are some great documentaries out there on the Ottoman Empire and what happened after WW1 and the treaties created in Paris in 1919-1920. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottoman_Empirehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_Peace_Conference,_1919 There's a lot of interesting reading, or at least I think so, so top up your coffee.

This has nothing to do with "war". War has RULES.
As far as I am concerned, once you become a felon, you have given up your rights to civil liberties. Similarly, in my opinion, once you become a terrorist, you have given up your rights as a human being.
I agree there is something not right about taking away civil liberties BEFORE the crime, but currently, they are taking away passports and putting you on a no fly list. Is that not already an infringement on civil liberties? If we are going to infringe, then let's infringe a little further and save some innocent lives.

The rules have not existed forever. Since they were created, if the rules weren't followed, it was crime, not war.
