Hey guys & gals. I have bad news.....my DSM got damaged on Saturday morning. I love my car so much, BUT I don't know what to do with it. Fix It OR Part-It-Out for cash. My Insurance will not cover it....apparently I caused it and I have 1-way insurance. Here are pictures : Side Fender was Slammed In. Windsheild cracked in bottom corner. Hood raised, but no damage. Driver's door jammed..... Pedals squashed together.... It looks like the only holding the wheel to the car is the shock. I will try to check my PMs here on the board..... I prefer direct e-mails.... : JKatranis@sympatico.ca WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? FIX OR PART-OUT ???? Thanks In Advance for All Of Your Input(s) & Comment(s)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everything is fixable, doesn't look like it has any heavy shell damage, if you want to repair it and are handy-capable it shouldn't cost you allot at all. Jonny

HUH Are you looking at the same pictures everyone else is? You saw the pedals, right? The buckled floor? You think the rest of the car is OK? For the amount you can pick a straight shell up for now, fixing that one is a waste of time/money.
Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!

Well I can see enough people don't like the appearance I HAD on my car (yellow colour). Thats fine, it doesn't bother me.... I did forget to post the picture(s) of the rest of the car..... everything else is in excellent shape . Still really upset about what happened.......

For the amount you can pick a straight shell up for now, fixing that one is a waste of time/money. That'll buff right out... few min on the frame machine n some good ol' fashioned hammer work.

Jordan,
Nasty.
I would politely ask your insurance company for access to the claims adjusters report to ascertain what specificaly needs mending and what the repair estimate would be in his opinion. And get his/her name. Express your emotional attachment to the car and that you are thinking of having it fixed yourself but would like a professional opinion on cost by area. I'm guessing he saw 1990 and didn't bother. Explain that you may want to salvage the car and would appreciate the adjuster meeting with you to explain why he considers it a write off. Buy him a coffe or beer or something to entice him to come for a second look while you're there.
Try and work with the person and it may give you an idea as to the cost and labour required to fix it. Then it's your call not theirs.
However, per the other posts if the frame is damaged you may find all kinds of hidden fun down the road. And if you can't do the work yourself then you'll have to go with the adjusters repair estimate. The car is worth less than the cost of repairs in their opinion, hence they have written it off.
Settle down and get as much information as you can before you make a decision.
PS. Don't forget the daily storage cost for wherever it is, so you can't mull over the decision for too long.
Good luck and let us know.
Cheers Tony

Cheers Tony The adjuster has not even come for a first as far as I know. Since I have a 1-way insurance policy, and apparently I caused the accident the insurance carrier is not responsible for any repairs to my vehicle. Anyways, I'm having I hard time beleive my favorite car in the whole world is now gone. Still haven't decided what exactly to do. I told my dad that I will most likely part-out the car; and the next day he told me not to do anything yet, because he thinks he wants to fixs it.

Jordan, how old are you and how long have you had your licence? I ask for insurance reasons.
Did you look at the same pics I did? That car will never be the same, get another one and part this one. Tell your dad to spend 20 mins thinking about exactly what the parts will cost and how he's going to make anything true again. Maybe then he'll realize it's a waste to attempt to fix it.
