Thats a saving of a whopping $80! ... Well, I think I`ll hold off. I mean if $80 was keeping me from getting dsmlink v2 all this time, I might as well pick a different hoby besides cars. I would consider it if the price was maybe $400, but 600 is still too much for me, even with a $80 savings, but thanks for the tip.

There is no duty on items shipped UPS Express. DSMLink charges $20, didnt cost me a cent more. Originally posted by Daren Peacock: Ya I talked to Thomas first to make sure they were legit, he told me ya he set this guy up & they are legit. He said the guy was probably selling them cheeper because its a new company and he wants to get his name out. You can buy dsmlink from different vendors, he said what happens is the vendor you purchased dsmlink from will send him your info such as email etc. & they'll register you. Alright thats cool then.

There would be no duty in any case, as it is made in the USA. There would just be taxes. Also, Blaine is correct, it is the brokerage fee that is included with UPS air...Duty is payable to the government like a tax, UPS would normally just collect it for the government, same as they would with taxes.

If you are getting something small and light from the US (like a CD), it is worth it to pay a couple extra dollars shipping for "Express", or air shipment, as that way UPS includes the brokerage!

You shouldnt get nailed with any sort of fees or taxes if the sender can use US Postal Service (USPS).. I never did. On the other hand, I have yet to find a way of getting things over the border using UPS without paying anything. I have received items such a big shiny turbo's marked "Birthday Gift" and I still get the sh!ty end of the stick every time. I have another package coming from RRE for me, if someone can please figure out by Monday how to avoid any charges with UPS, please let me know But for the guys buying dsmlink, I would ask that if you purchase this, ask the guy to walk over to the postal office and send using regular US Mail, you will not be charged brokerage.

With UPS it doesn't matter if its marked birthday gift or not, basically you still get screwed . RRE puts the actual value that you paid on their commercial invoice so you wont get a break from them. I'm luckey cause I can use my broker at work with my UPS shipments which saves me alot on the brokerage compared to what UPS charges & I usually only have to pay one tax instead of two.

watch it with having things marked as gifts , if your package gets lost in the mail , or stolen , you can never recover the actual value of your package , since it was marked down to lets say , 50 $ when in reality it was worth 600 $

It has nothing to do with the amount you get back if the package is lost or damaged. They only cover $100 I believe, or maybe its less? unless you get aditional insurance for the "real" value. If you make down the item is worth $1000 on the customs paperwork you wont get $1000 if the package is lost you will get their base amount unless the package was insured, which some people dont understand. Another example is when I sent my injectors to the states to get cleaned. I put a customs value of $1.00 and a n/c repair so the receiver wouldnt have to pay brokerage/taxes but I paid extra to put additional insurance coverage of $500 so that if something happened I was properly covered.
