Guys, I've got a 1G AWD DSM,

I've almost had it with these leaks..
Besides the massive steering pump leak, I appear to have an oil leak as well... At first I figuired the oil cooler lines were suspect, and they very well maybe, but something else is also going on.. I just did manifold gaskets not too long ago, not that any oil should be in there, but something on the front driver side corner of the engine is leaking... It black and wet bu that bracket the engine has so that you can lift it?
It's also all over the oxygen sensor.. I dont know what the hell could have happened to it except it started right after I had my car on a hoist for an exhaust inspection.. Anyone else have this trouble?? I dont know what else to do to this thing, I have already blown one engine because of oil leakage..

Thanks,

Tony

Tony,

I am experiencing a similar problem. Recently, the car seems to sputter out oil from the oil cap area. It happened for the first time a few days ago after having hit 20+ psi (unintentionally) a few times while trying to set my MBC for something higher than 15. I had one of the aftermarket caps with a small O-ring gasket. So after I cleaned the engine bay, I put my OEM cap back on. Today, the cap still leaks although not as bad as the aftermarket cap.

Questions:

1) Does higher boost really cause the oil pressure to increase so greatly that the oil will find a way out with the least resistance?

2) Has anyone else experienced this leaky oil cap phenomenon? If so, is there a quick fix?

For now, I will put MBC back to 15 and see if oil still leaks.

TIA/
Joe

Well, Im not sure, the dipstick was also leaking the stick would edge out, and some oil got out that way before, but I fixed that, I dont have an aftermarket cap, nor do I have any extensive mod's.
All Ive done is got rid of the air can, and done the MAF Mod.. When I look under that spark plug cover, I also see oil in there, but for the life of me I cant tell where the hell it's comming from...

Does anyone have any additinal ideas???

You may want to check the sparg plug well gaskets. I've got one that leaks a bit, and it ends up pushing oil from under the boot, to the top of the valve cover.

If this is the case, you want to fix it fast. The oil will ruin your spark plug wires...

Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!

Hmmm...Guys, I sympathize. I've had (and I'm having) every oil leak in the book. I used to have oil under the s.p. cover, too, but it went away after I had the t/belts and all related oil seals swapped. NOW I've got a cooling line leak AND a leak that's misting oil up around the valve cover gasket on the passenger side. Drive clean is gonna kill me.

Yes higher pressure in the crankcase from higher boost levels will often cause leaking at the oil cap. On my car adding in a new gasket didn't help. What did help was putting the new gasket right over the old one. Now my cap grips hard [Linked Image] and hasn't leaked a drop since [Linked Image].

On mine replacing the cap gasket took care of the problem.

I got the oil comming out of the oil cap as well last year.
Worry not as it is a simple fix. The gasket on the oil cap ages over time and becomes brittle. Just go to the chrysler dealership and get an oil cap gasket and replace the old one... It is a cheap part.. Something under $5 I think it was...

Thanks all.

Hmmm, now that I know this was caused by higher boost levels, for some odd reason, the leaking oil at the cap now seems more like a "badge of honor" than a problem.

I actually have a car that can run high boost and live to tell about it [Linked Image]

If I fix the boost at the cap, though, won't the next weakest link be the next place a leak will occur? Will that be the head gasket? Ouch. Maybe I should leave the weak oil cap gasket in as a safety precaution [Linked Image]

Back to 15-16 psi for me.

hehe
I would have to say that your next problem will be oil all over the inside of your hood, dripping down onto the head. [Linked Image]
i.e, your oil dipstick will shoot out of the housing, which will be followed by lots of oil...
Another cheap fix though... just crush the dipstick housing with a set of pliers...

All these problems are being caused by one thing: Extensive crankcase pressure.

one way to help thta is to remove your valve cover, hog out the little breather nipple, put a larger diameter pipe of pipe in there, then go K&N crankcase breather filter...

I've heard of cars with incredibly good rings still getting blow by, and pressurizing the crankcase to this point... I have yet yo open up that hole, but it soon will be.

My prob was a cracked valve cover... very hard to spot. In the bottom right hand corner, the bolt under the spark plug cover had the teeniest little crack in it... some JB weld and all is good again :-)

Hell, it's under the spark plug cover...who's gonna see it?

And the crimped dipstick tube works well... I did mine 2 summers ago, adn the dipstick hasn;t blown out since.

Yeah all of those things happen including the dipstick.. I think I have found my main problem though, It would Seem that Mike Hamilton was right when he saw my car, the valve cover gasket is gone..

Although im sure its not the only leak, its the biggie...

Question is, once I fix it, does this mean there is way too much pressure in the engine?
Does that mean it may blow? dont think ill pay for yet another engine swap..

what else can I do to prevent such tragedy?
Im rnning stock boost, like I said only maf mod and k&n can-less setup..

The two things I would be most concerned about are a old\blocked pcv valve and a
"hardened" oil cap gasket. With the valve it
caused a fire on my exhaust manifold\turbo via the popping dipstick last summer which luckily I was able to put out with lung power. It also caused lots of oil to find it's way out through the oil cap and onto the
valve cover/intake manifold. Two weeks ago
I noticed white smoke coming from the hood and noticed that oil had once again been frying on the exhaust manifold. It was coming
from a the oil cap so I took out the old gasket and put in a new $3 one. At higher than stock boost levels I'm still getting a
bit of oil coming through the phillips screw
at the top of the oil cap. My next solution
will be to use some "gasket maker" from crappy tire beneath the screw. Any suggestions?

Instead of gasket maker, maybe try some teflon tape. Teflon tape always works wonders for my problems..

My Pcv Valve is brand new, but the valve cover gasket just has to go...
AnyIdea where I can get a cheap one? UAP Napa wants like 100 bux for one..LOL

Do what my dealer did. Liquid form-a-gasket. Orange. Seems to have worked great for the past few years. (:
