My Oil pressure is really low. At idle it reads L-*---^-------^---------H and at around 3000rpm L-----^*-------^----------H. Until it fully warms up I am getting a loud ticking noise. I know that there's a oil leak somewhere but can't seem to find it. Could that be the reason?

The car is a 91 awd with 275000 kms if it matters.

It is 5:50 in the morning and this problem is really stressing me out [Linked Image] Any advice would be helpfull.

If you have an early model car, it's assumed that it isn't really a problem. Mine idles on the L mark as well, but moves to within normal when running above 2700rpm. The consensus is not to worry about it much.

If it worries you, check the pressure sending unit out.

Ihave a '90 and mine has done that since I bought it over 2 years ago. No problems. If the guage reads fine and the oil light aint on and the dipstick is OK. Dont sweat it.
If your not convinced do a search on "low oil pressure" within the site and Im sure there will be at least 5 other members who will say say the same thing.

I found a oil leak at the line that feeds the the turbo oil, so I made it tight as possable and guess what the oil pressure goes up a fiar amount. But it still seems to leak! I can't get a tourqe wrench in the limited space. How tight should it be, I mean I don't want to break the bolt or anything.

Thank Guy's

Shouldn't be too tight. You may need new copper washers for the banjo bolt to seal it up right. Expensive part at the dealer for what it is ($9 for each washer!!!) but a cheap fix in reality. Crappy tire sells copper seals for the oil drain hole that fit some banjo bolts, never tried to look for one for the dsm though.

9 bucks each!! man your dealer is a satan... I don't remember how much i paid, but it wasn't 9 bucks!!!

Paul you need to get new copper washers... overtightening them won't do it. Also check to see if the return tube is leaking from under the car... and also the eyebolt that connects the turbo oil line to the head.

hope this helps

List price at my local dealer was $4, but the guy lowered the price to $2 for me. I ended up not picking them up, though. They were included in a $250 engine gasket rebuild set that I bought.

Two sneaky oil leaks have plagued my engine: the first was (and is again) the oil return tube--the washers are a REALLY cheap fix, even at $9 a pop because my tube cracked and $180 later I had a new one.
The second pesky little problem is leakiness around the oil cooling lines gaskets. Take a quick peek (right in front of the drivers' side wheel well, running up right next to the oil filter housing.

The return tube is fine. I'll take a look at the oil cooling line gaskets asap.

Thanks for helping this newbie out [Linked Image]

Hmmm...... My oil pressure is really low too..

During idle it's between the low, and 1/2...

During regualr driving it's next to or below the min mark on normal operation.. At WOT it's 3/4 max..

Yeah oil pressure seems to be low on most DSM.
