Is anyone on here a mechanic that likes to do labour fairly cheaply on talons?

I would like to clean my lifters very shortly and do the timing belt & balance shaft belts at the same time. I think that I could probably do the lifters myself, but the t-belt looks a little beyond me...

The cheapest quote I've had so far from a mechanic is $500 for the labour to do both. Can anyone out there do it cheaper?

ive got a mechanic that is a friend of the family, he knows imports very well, and i trust him with my car. if your willing to drive down to toronto he will probablly do the belts for about half of what you were quoted. let me know if you are interested.

Hows it going Jon? I will ask my Mechanic about a quote when I talk with him regarding my Talon later this afternoon. He usually does about $50/hour labour and knows Talons very well. He and some of the guys he works with race a 1992 Talon which they did all the work/mods. 90% of his clients have imports and he is know around town as the guy to go to for DSMs. He currently has two Talons, my Talon and a 96 Eclipse in his shop. I'll get back to you on the quote.

Hey Steve, where is your mechanic located at? Is it in London? And what colour does your Talon happen to be? I see a '92-'94 red Talon in London a lot when I am there.

Feroz --> About the mustang, sorry, I fixed it and sold it already...lost a lot of money though.

Shawn --> I'll definetely keep that one in mind, just want to check out Steve's guy first (since he's local).

Steve --> Great, let me know how much he'll charge.

Greg, no my TSI is white but I have seen the one you're talking about. laugh My Mechanic just moved from Fanshawe Park Rd. & Hyde Park to 1357 Hyde Park---nice set-up now, will be able to handle all the import busieness he gets.

Thats cooL, every weekend night I am in London, I see the guy with the red Talon and he always pulls up beside me when I am in my parents Civic, gives me a dirty look and drives off. He knows I have no chance, and so do I, it is funny..

Jon - I don't mind helping you tear down your car and get it all back together again but I don't want to put the new t-belt on a take responsiblity if something were to happen to it like 3 weeks later. I don't mind lending you a hand with all the other stuff if you can get another member who can do a t-belt blindfolded to come over and just finish that off for us.

Let me know!

Scott, I definetely want to get my lifters cleaned now, as I believe they may be causing knock. How's your weekend look?

As for small projects, I have to put in my MBC before Saturday, since it's still sitting in my backseat. I haven't pulled the hoses off yet though, so I'm not sure that I have the correct fitting sizes. Could you tell me what they are? 1/8" I think?
