OK...I'm trying to replace the door speakers on my 92 TSI and I can't figure out what the speaker size is....are they 5 1/4"? My wife just bought a set of 4" that were too small...I want to make sure that I buy the correct size this time.

Anybody?

Hi Steve,

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&q=eagle+talon+front+speaker+size

Then I found:
http://www.lowrider.com/information/speakerfit/dh.php

Make Model Year Front-T Front-L Rear
Eagle Talon 90-94 4 6.5, 6x9
Eagle Talon 95-99 4 5.25, 6.5

To add some more confusion

http://www.mmxpress.com/install/domestic/eagle.htm
90-94 3.5" (top) 5.25" - 6" (door) 6.5" (rear)
95-98 n/a (top) 5.25 (door) 6x9" (rear)

And,

Futureship.ca has a thing called 'House of BOOM' that you can use to find speakers that fit our cars (or any car for that matter)

Go to Mobile Audio, then look for the H.o.B. icon on the right side of the page. 4th option down in the menu is: "What Fits In My Car?" Click that, answer the questions and start shopping. The navigation at this point shifts to the bottom frame on the page.

Cheers smile

I've got 6" in my doors, and rears.

5 1/4" will work in the door, I happened to have 6" from a previous car, and they fit, so I used them.

The rears are 6X9. I've never been a fan of that particular speaker size, so, again, I put 6" in there.

This is for a 1G.

Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!

My laser had 3" in the dash 5.25" in the doors and an od ball sized 6" in the back

I have all ////Alpine in my 91 1G now

dash - S series SPS-1029 4"
doors -S series SPS-1629 6.5"
Rear -R sereis SPR-172B Oversized 6.5"
The accual dimentions of the 172b are 7.6" and they just barely fir with out pounding down the fender well or blocking up the speakers. With some minor cutting to the grill cover the stock pannels wil fit over top too.
I also sealed in the rear speaker boxes so these little puppys bump very well and give off some killer mid bass.

Hi Steve,

The 6.5" in the doors... did you have to do any hacking to get them to fit?

Thanks

Thanks for the responses guys...I took out one of the speakers from my door, and it measured a little over 5" (but not quite 5 1/4") so I'm assuming that they would be 5 1/4"...is that a safe assumption?

Nope . the 6.5" I used in the doors were originally going to be used in the back ,even though the speaker and surround it self was the same size the mounting plate patter on the OEM speaker was way bigger so the alpine 6.5 would drop right threw the huge hole. So I used them in the doors instead.
All I had to do was drill new mounting holes in the black plastic speaker holder in the doors and slightly turn them to clear a spot for the wires.
Same with the big homkin' speakers in the back
They fit in the holes you just need to drill new mounting holes. the speaker mag is about 1/8 away from bottoming out "Perfect fit"
Then I made my own grills to cover them.
E-mail me and I'll send you some pics of my speaker install

What a project, but it's done!

For the front: Infinity reference series 605cs $279.99
And for the rear: Sony XS-W1620 [Xplod] $44.99 (regular $89.99) 50% off (F.S. special ongoing deal)

Tip: rewire the front! I don't know what's going on, but it sounded like CRAP out of the
front speakers utilizing the stock wire. I ended up rewiring everything.

BTW,
My front speakers… 12 ohm up top and 6 ohm in the door. Go figure eh?
The Infinity subs are 6.5" ...I had so much room in the door from the stock speaker,
I had to make a template to hold the new speaker.

Sound before: ~3
Sound after: 9 (a 10 would require more power ough! ough! ough!)

Thanks for all tips / tricks / images and ideas.

btw, if anyone is as new to this as I am, be sure to check out 'Sound Advice' here at ca.dsm in the technical info section of the web site. Chris Holmes has put together a wicked bunch of articles on sound systems in a DSM. Well worth the read!

Cheers!
