My second clutch release fork.... JUST BROKE!

Shortly after installing an ACT 2600 I broke the original fork... OK, I think, the new one (OEM) looks beefier, I'm OK with that... I upped the pressure quite a bit, and I understand.

About 40000km later, more than 2 years, it just broke again (I'm 99% sure).

There I am pulling into a gas station (Sunoco of course), and my pedal sticks to the floor. I limp to the pumps, and shut down. I reach down and pull the petal up. There was no !SNAP! like the first time, but I'm pretty sure its the clutch release fork again. Same behaviour... Push in the cluch against no resistance, and it just stays down, of couse it doesn't release, so I can't drive the car. Call buddy, he's going to see P. Gabriel Monday, so he won't work on it till Tuesday... Booo this is my daily driver, and my only driver. Call a dealership, the send a flatbed... I'll survive.

The question is, Is there a better one. They won't begin work till Monday, so, if I can get a stronger Clutch release fork, I need to know.

I took a cursery (sp?) look, and the mechanism under the dash is working, and there are no leaks around the master cylinder, or, as far as I can see from the top, the slave cylinder either. So, I'm confident my diagnoses is correct, but if you can think of something else, I would like to hear that too.

Thanks for the help,
James

These guys carry a nice beefy one http://www.taboospeedshop.com/

The tip of the clutch release fork sticks out of the tranny, if its broken odds are you might be able to move it by hand but who knows.
You can also have someone press the clutch and see if the slave cyclinder is at least moving the release fork.

Thanks.

I didn't crawl under, and now I don't have the car or I would have checked that.

Thanks for the link.

Eastway is a Chrysler dealership in the Toronto area where one of your members (Adam Clay) is the parts manager. It's the best place in Canada for DSM parts and he is willing to ship parts anywhere as far as I know.

His contact info is listed <A HREF="http://www.ca.dsm.org/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=19;t=000092">here</A>.

Great thanks again... Lot's of good stuff in this thread for those of us that keep snapping clutch release forks...

I'm liking the idea of the billet one from the states... $90US doesn't seem so bad to me.

I will call on Adam Monday though, and hear what his thoughts on the matter.

Tuirns out it was my slave cylinder... I didn't see any fluid leaking because it was alread empty... ooops.

$220 labour in, so not so bad I guess. I wish I had a place to work, I'd do it myself... Alas, I rent, and I have no garage.

Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.
