I just had the engine changed in my talon.(2.0L non-turbo) When I first got it back, it was SMOOTH. 13 hours later, due to a tensioner oversight, the timing belt slipped a tooth and the car ran like crap. He adjusted it, said there was no engine damage after running a compression test, and gave it back. Now it sound even worse than before, surging in idle and shaking like an earthquake. It sputters and kicks and sounds like hell. I'm embarrassed to drive this thing, and I'm worried that doing so will wreak havoc on this new engine.Any ideas what might be causing these problems? The mechanic seems unsure.

Searched on Timing Belt and found this , this , and this , which you will probably need to do.

Feeling new?

Well, thanxs for your help, but the timing belt is fresh and these guys claim the timing is 100% on. I'm thinking air/fuel, O2 sensor, mass air sensor, something like that. If it's air fuel, that's beyond my basic realm of abilities. (put slot A in hole B)So, I was just hoping someone may have had a similar experience so I can determine what kind of headaches I'm in for.

Did you watch the compression test being performed?
sounds like maybe it's out of time or the oil pump timing is not correct.

If it ran fine until the blet slipped look there for your problem... Timing, engine damage, counterbalance timing.
Make sure everything is plugged in properly like the CAS and MAS all vacuum hoses etc.

I think someone just got bamboozled!! That happened to me when I had my engine rebuilt in my truck. Bring it to another mechanic someone that you KNOW WELL. Get them to preform all the proper tests. If the shop did f&@* it up then you can go to the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint agaist them. Who knows you may not be the only one that has had this problem with that shop.
