I have been experiencing some difficulty with my car lately. As stated in my topic, I am unable to get my car into gear, when it is running, it started happening yesterday, March 6th, 2004. Whenever I have the car off I can put it into any gear, 1-5 and reverse, with or without the clutch. But when I start the car, I cannot get it to go into any gear, the closest thing is reverse and that just grinds when I get half way in. I dont know if the clutch is gone, because the car still starts, however the clutch pedal is not as springy as before. It just won't go into gear. I also checked the clutch fluid level, and it is fine. The previous owner told me that the clutch cables, were 4000 Km's old aswell as the rebuilt tranny, and the act2600. i have put about 9, 000km on it since i bought it.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Kyle

clutch is not disengaging....could be a multitude of things....from bent clutch fork, leaky master or slave, worn clutch pedal (likely) if its not welded, incorrectly adjusted master (adj. under dash), or damaged pressure plate.

Any ideas as to where to start?
This problem just happened out of no where. As of saturday morning it started, another thing is that when i was driving it on Friday, for no reason it just stalled, i was sitting at a light with the clutch completly in. This happened twice(two separate times) before it stopped going into gear

Thanks
Kyle

Actually it sounds like a bad slave or master. One of the seals finally popped and/or you lost too much fluid... now there's air in the system and it can't handle the pressure needed to disengage the clutch.

Start by crawling under the dash and checking for fluid leakage by the master cylinder. If its clean, move under the car and pull the rubber boot off the slave cylinder... it's in clear sight, it should take you like 2 minutes to do this. If fluid leaks out when you pull the boot, your slave is toast. Replace as necessary.

Thanks for the replies,
I thought it might be a hydraulic system problem as well, but I checked the fluid level, and it is fine, and the slave was replaced about a month or two ago, and the master was checked at the same time. I will check again though.

Thanks Again
Kyle

If your fluids are fine, do as Len suggested and check for a worn pedal assembly. The exact same thing happened to me a few years ago and thats what it was. I even had it welded and it still snapped a couple of days later. Just get a new one and while your in there, get a stronger clutch fork 'cuz that will go to eventually.

I have the exact same problem right now. I backed the adjustment rod out. Checked and bled the slave, checked for leaks, checked fluid level. Master is one year old. no leaks no spongyness. Tried to shim clutch fork, No dice.

Now you tell me about this pedal asembly? They break? I think mine would be fine, as the slave is getting tons of pressure and pushing the fork. I am just thinking the fingers on the pressure plate finally gave out!

What kind of warentee does ACT have?
I am guessing the warentee would be void since I am using a stock OEM mitsu disc.

guess I will have to shell out 500$ for a new act 2100

But if it's the fingers that are gone, doesn't that mean only the pressure plate is defective?

If ACT will sell you a pressure plate without a disc, then it's fair game that you are covered regardless of what disc you use, no?

Have to see when I pull the tranny out, I might just throw in a stock one cause I am poor, and have a brand new one sitting here.

Then try to get warentee on the act once I have it out.

what the hell is a blown clutch?!
don't lead the fellow to nowhere. You don't know even enough to specify what a blown clutch means! worn, disintegrated, loosens, gerenaded?

This is like a hydrulic problem as Darko said.
Check the slave, master and the fork!

Thanks to Everyone who posted, I appreciate it. I just got the car back, it turned to be the clutch master cylinder.

Thanks
Kyle
