1991 Eagle 2000 GTX FWD 2.0L 4g63 SOHC 5 spd.

I have an exhaust leak just before the cat which is allowing me to hear things a little better... Whenever I let off the throttle halfway or less, the car emits series of popping noises, very similar to my RX7's. It sounds like backfiring, NOT misfiring.

What could be the problem? O2 sensor?? Timing was set last year. Plugs were changed last fall. Oil was just changed. Headgasket was changed a year ago.

Get the exhaust fixed and you won't hear it anymore.. My car is the same way (hole in flex pipe). All cars make those noises, but the exhaust prevents you from hearing it.
