I'm leaving my place this morning(I start work at 5 am) and I turn on the lights (no problem) I go down the road a couple of houses and I turn on the high beams and all the sudden I have NO HEADLIGHTS...all the other marker and brake lights work, just not the headlights(daytime driving,lowbeam,highbeam).....turn around park the car and take my truck to work.....I got home and checked all the fuses(in the car and engine bay) I think....anyone have any idea what's wrong frown I'm stumped

Thanks for any help
Steve

UPDATE:
I have power going to the headlights so I tried another light I had lying around and it came on for a flash and then was no-more....so I have a short somewhere, I HATE ELECTRICITY annoy any Idea's on that please

Thanks again
Steve

Are your bulbs blown, or is the power cutting out?

Ya I check(with a multimeter and test light) and there's power going to the end of the plug....so at this point I think both my headlights blew(hi and low). Now I'm just wondering why? Both sides blew out at the same time and hi and low at the same time...some sort of power surge or something? Would a bad relay do that? Or what else could it be?
Stumped...never seen anything like this before
Which wire is the ground(thought I found it) ALL the wires to the plug are red...some have different stripes.
Thanks for the help

Hello Steven.

Check the Alternator voltage output just in case it is on it's way.

I had one pushing up to 17.5v last winter and it blew quite a few Bulbs.

Ghislain.

are you sure you could measure as much voltage with load?

Isn't the headlight circuit fused as well.Wouldn't the increase in voltage blow the fuses first? I had the same problem with a truck and it was just a cut in the wire the was grounding against the metal causing nothing to work. It did pop the fuses first though and didn't ruin the bulb.

increase in voltage doesn't blow the fuse. that's not the fuse is meant for. Because the fuse doesn't know what the voltage is anyways!

Connect a bolt and see if you could still measure the same voltage as you would without the bulb. I can't see how 4 bulbs would blow at the same time. because you would either have it at low beam or high!

Hey Ghislain I checked the voltage at the battery and when the car was at idle it was anywhere from 15.5 to 16-17 and at rev(2000 I think) it was 17.5 plus....so I think to start the altenator regulator is pooched....thanks
p.s Ya have one kickin around..lol
thanks
Steve
