Hey guys...

Well, ive only had the ESi for 5 months and ive done a fair amount of mods. But then i think, it's going to take thousands of dollars just to get me up to a tsi's speed. Why not sell my low km engine ESi Talon and get a 150 000 km TSi AWD instead.

What i'm wondering is this... According to almost any car enthusiast they bash the 4g63 as being a problem ridden engine. Well, although i do know more about engines than the average person (like most of us i'm sure) i do need a car that can get me from point A to point B (way faster than my ESi) without real problems and can sustain many modifications along the way. Should i be looking at a TSi awd? Or can any of you suggest a better vehicle choice?

Thanks guys,
Sean.

Lots of guys on here have modified awd tsi's, and drive them everyday to and from wherever they need to go, myself included.
Have you given any thought to maybe dropping in a 4g63t into youre car, I mean if its in nice condition, low kms, well looked after, that would be my first inclination.
Unless youre plannin on huge power and mods, a nice tsi fwd will do you well in the future, more reliable to, less **** to break from beating the crap out of it.

By the sounds of it, it seems to me he may have a 420a 2g talon. In this case sell and buy the turbo awd.

Alot of the problems you hear about arise because people are uneducated as to the maintenance a 4g63t requires. If you stay on top of things its quite a reliable setup. The most feared problem with a 2g is the crankwalk issue. Really you should read up on your options, search this board, there is hoards of information on this site. Most people who post all kinds of repetitive questions are to lazy to search. You'd be suprised what you can find on here if you word your search terms properly. Also there is tons of other sources on the net for DSM's, like VFAQ etc. I researched DSM's for months before I bought what I wanted and I can say I am very happy with my choices.

From personal experience a high performance car, especially dsm's getting quite old require a flexible wallet to keep them on the road. Don't make any financial commitments to a vehicle without doing your research, if you can't find it already discussed then ask us. I'm not claiming to have your answers, I know F.A. compared to alot of these guys on here.

Happy DSM'ing

There are a few members here, with over 200K on their 2g 4g63 and still running good as a daily driving machine.

As long as you maintain it well (come check this board often! laugh ), it should be fine.

He said ESi which means he probably has a 2G NT. That means he has the 420a neon engine which have completely different motor mounts then a 4G63. So he can't just drop in a new engine.

I have 240,000 kms on my chassis and I have 85,000 kms on my 6 bolt already. I think I'm making a significant amount of power as well and I use this thing to commute from Kitchener to Mississauga every day.

Short answer: Do it!

Long answer:
Not too soon, not too late.
You know what you want, so do it.
To put things into perspective: Neons depreciate way fast, partly because of it's reputation as unreliable, and 420 engines have the stigma of being Neon engines. Not to argue here, these engines can be strong. And like everything else, it will be good to you if you maintain it. So what you got is as good as what you want to get, putting rumours on both engines in perspective. Read the FAQ's about timing belt failures and interference engines.
If speed is what you want, you know what to do.

Buy yourself a civic and drop a type-r, with the right mods they can just as fast as a TSi.
