Well 2ish and coming back from the east end southbound on DVP. Taking it easy floating along in the centre lane @110 in a 90 with eyes open for the law...bad stretch, bad time to be caught wide open. Getting down to the bottom and see a set of lights coming up fast in my lane so let off the throttle till I can identify it, anybody moving faster then me is usually a cop Up comes a white bimmer right on my ass, darts left and races on by like he accomplished something impressive. I dont bite because I know one of my favourite curves in coming up and I may have to embarass the little puke. The ramp is at the bottom of the DVP with 3 lanes one going straight through towards lakeshore and 2 split right with a posted ramp of 60k. Its a sweet curve, long, high slope, increasing radius that dumps into 4 lanes which gives you extra run off if you are too hot. Bimmer hits the binders as he realizes he may have wrote a cheque his ass cant cash and takes it down from 150 to 80 or so in the outside lane, my usual lane but the inside works just fine too I bump it up as I see his brakes come on at hit the curve at twice the posted ramp, on the inside and accelerate hard past him. Exit the ramp at better than 160 leaving him standing still somewhere back there. Ease off the throttle and float back down to 120 as the lesson was over...or so I thought. The puke hauls it down the straight, freight trains and does a fly by, I dont bite until he slows and starts tapping his brake lights as if to say he showed me Ok on throttle for a little freight train of my own, he trys to run but a tight left hander is coming up with a merge from 3 to 2 and again the b1tch loses his nerve and falls back braking hard. I accelerate through the corner leaving him wondering why his daddy didnt buy him some driving lessons. He tries to keep up then does a quick lane change across to a tail between the legs, save some face exit.
Every day I beat my own previous record for number of consecutive days I've stayed alive.

Well if he hadnt been a jerk in a BMW to begin with I wouldnt have even bothered. If he had anything more than two feet for pressing a gas pedal and a brake it would have been a race as a new 5 series is still a quick car with good handling. So I didnt really beat the car just the driver so maybe next time it will be more interesting.

Jerry. I caught your little poke about only racing the 1/4. My car is designed for the 1/4 but with the springs, shocks, bars, bushings and Toyo RA1's that it does have I can outrun most you guys on the streets or in the turns. Oh and I do also have 580+ whp on tap. To build a good drag AWD Talon the suspension parts required also produce a nice low and stiff street ride. Thanks.

Haha Brad take it easy. Its just this obsession with 1/4's amuses me, especially for the guys that never even see a track. In the real world of driving there is so much more. All the young guys spend too much time and money trying to makes a 10 second car and wouldnt know what to do with it if they could. A lot of drivers in general cant use what the factory gave them and dont even bother with what to do after all the mods. Personally, I would rather have a balanced mix of power, handling and braking versus a drag monster. Brad you are the exception to the rule given you have the car, the power and the times to back it up. You would embarass me at the drag stip but I could still give you a run for your money with half the ponies carving corners on gravel or snow covered backroads rally style

Sure, a run for my money but you live in Mississauga where you see snow a few days of the year. I live in Walkerton where our roads have been covered with snow since the 3rd week of Nov. I drive a AWD Toyota Corolla for a winter car and the poor thing lives on the rev limiter until I park it in April when the snow melts. If you ever get up this way in the winter you will like our roads. No traffic, no pavement on most back roads, large snow banks, and most of the time we have understanding cops. The great far north is pretty great.

You consider Walkerton the great far North?

Jerry I love reading stories like these . I have had a few runs on the roads in a few different car that I have owned . I totally agree about too much emphasis being put on 1/4 mile stuff , not to say I don't like it because nothing could be further from the truth . I have spent may days at Cayuga and Grand Bend over the years but lately I have been going to lapping days at Mosport . There is no comparison to running 1/4 mile vs doing a session of 20+ laps around Mosports 2.5 mile roadcourse flatout. It is so much fun working your way around some Porsches, Bmws and other "fast"cars. Kind of fun also when some 600hp car flys past you doing about 60K faster than you when you're already hitting 200+ up the long straight. I like to play on the streets and still do that too but I really pick where and when.

Shannonville is a great track I have done lapping and taken instruction there. I have a great shot of my wife driving the Talon there about to be passed by a 2003 GT3.They were running the Pro track configuration and the cars are on the front straight coming out of turn 10. I wish it was easier to post a picture on this forum.

Nigel I tried that link but nothing happened , could be because of "dialup" ? Jerry I sent you an email with attachement.
