I went and looked at a Talon today that was advertised "1990 eagle talon tsi awd".

It does say "16dohv turbo" (dohc, dohv whatever) but not the AWD sticker.

I asked the guy he says yes its an AWD. I never testdrove it nor would I know the difference if I did.

How could I check to make sure its awd?

Look undr the car (from the drivers side) and if it's an AWD you'll see a drive shaft going to the back wheels and right after the tranny there will be a transfer case.

And you could take it for a test drive and find some gravel anf floor it. If it's awd you should take off with some wheel spin. If you don't go anywhre it's a fwd.

thing is... why would anyone want to take off that sticker? If my car was awd I'd leave the sticker on. And it's not that it got painted and all the stickers stripped cuz then it wouldn't even say 16v dohc turbo...

I bet it's fwd and not awd...

It had a weird exhaust tip that was melted at the very tips a bit. wouldnt be that noticeable on the road but when you look down you can see it.

This a bad sign?

Holy jebus!
Uh, I dunno how loudly I should say this, but my 92' Laser RS-T (no AWD [Linked Image]) with 98,000ks on it onl cost me $7650 out here in Alberta ($7800 listed, btw). I knew it was a good deal, but man... I never knew I was getting off THAT lucky. [Linked Image]

hmm.. My '92 TSI fwd with 180,000km (hrrmph) was $5,700, in almost perfect condition (a few minor surface scratches and stone chips on the hood).

I guess I got a good deal after all if all these other talons are going for so much!

I think I got a good one for you guys;

That was about a month ago, a local Used car lot had a White 1991 Laser NT MT. That thing was pretty brused; had some rust in the usual spots, funky "Tiger Sticker" on the Pop-up and butt ugly striping to go with the wild cats... You guys picture this I'm sure. Takyest DSM I ever seen.

They were advertising this poor old DSM "As Is". I went; Mmmm, maybe I should stop and get it for spare parts (This last statement should really make a clear picture of the shape of this car, right???). So I stop and ask buddy (Cheesy Car Salesman with a pen in his shirt pocket...).

Hey, how much for this car??? His reply; Oh special price we are asking $3500 as is. I went; Cough, whaaat??? I just want it for the parts Man.

They sold it a few day later... How much, I dot no but I sure hope the buyer got a good deal...

Ghislain.

Adrian you are in the TO area..Dsm's are way cheaper here.

Like I said look for the driveshaft and x-fer case, if it's not there it's not an AWD

Yes they are WAY cheaper in Toronto.

They cost $750 to ship to Edmonton via the railroad.
I think I may do that.
Anderson Li (he is from Toronto and posts here) offered to have a car inspected for me (me paying of course whether its a lemon or not). I'd pay him $100 for his troubles OR split in half what he deals the car price down to. Whichever works out best for him.

Bottom line is that I can get a 90tsiawd for $5000-$5500 +750 shipping and save about $2000.

OR a 92awdlaser for $5000 where someone in Calgary is selling a non-awd 1992 turbo laser for $9000.

One thing about those Eastern cars; Rust. They use lots of salt on the roads in that area and I have some seen some examples of Toronto cars, and all I can say is be careful!

So I go in today to look at it. Luckily it is on the hoist thingy so I walk under it and look. Tranfer case? Where???

Go to the mechanic and ask him (a stupid question of course) "does the all wheel drive make the car heavier?" and point to the rear of the car as I say this, he says "this no allwheeldrive this frontwheeldrive". I walk away hoping to never come back.

Get home and find out my mom has made a $300 deposit on it for me. Get the sheet, go back. To their SURPRISE!!! Its NOT AWD????
So they give me the $300 back and all is good.

So yippee back to square 1
