Is it bad to use lighter pulleys vs the heavy stock pulleys?

Being new to a 4G63 engine, I don't know much about it. Is the weight of the stock crankshaft pulley used as a harmonic balancer? Is the stock crankshaft also used as a harmonic dampener?

Or will there be no problems with using the DSM Performance light weight pulley set (or similar) ? What about the harmonic dampening??

hey Leon I have 2G talon with the Unorthodox pulley set on my car for more than a year now and everything is running great. With the pulleys you will notice better throttle response. propable gain 8-10 hp.

I have the unorthodox set on my car too, they are great. I have had no problems yet and I have had them on for 1.5 years. The only bad I found, since the rotating mass is so light, between shifts, your revs will drop like a rock.

What about your bearing wear???

I sure ain't gonna gamble my engine by taking out the pulley that acts as harmonic balancer...

Don't worry about it,with my pulleys on the car for over a year never had a problem. I go to the track often and the car is driven hard all the time. If you decide on a set let me know i can get you a good deal on them.

Leon, the weights of the pullies don't really matter. The 'harmonic balancing' effect of the stock crank pulley is in the rubber isolation ring that goes around it's interior. This stops excessive vibrations. Since we don't have many (if any) powdered metal bits on our engines, we don't have to worry as much as some of the Honda boys do.
