Has anyone used Tunerstein and TMO Datalogger software with a Serial to USB adapter?

I'm running Win98SE and COM1 is set up with the USB adapter.
I go to connect with TMO and it connects to the ECU and when I hit start, no numbers are being displayed. Also on the bottom hand right of the window is displays, 'no link' but the disconnect button is there on the upper left.

Anyone used a Serial to USB adapter with a datalogger before? Any suggestions?

Hello Dean.

I had other USB problems with win98. The problem "might" be related with the win98 USB Driver. I since then have upgraded my PC and running XP on it. Running win2000 on the Laptop.

Maybe someone else will have more info about it...

Hope this helps.

Ghislain.

Reply e-mail from the company I got the datalogger from.

"Definitely the serial to USB adapter. For some reason, some laptops
using a serial to usb adapter do not work. I am not positive if it the
brand of adapter or the brand of laptop. Does your laptop have an
available serial port?"

So looks like using the Serial to USB adapter is sketchy. I'll have to track down a PCMCIA Serial buscard.

I've tried using the datalogger with a USB to serial adapter on a USB laptop running windows.

AFAIK, the datalogger just won't work with USB. annoy

If you can get it to work, post the solution.

My solution was buying a Serial PCMCIA BusCard off Ebay.

That Serial to USB adapter won't work, return it to get your money back and buy a buscard of ebay for $60.

The new BusCard should be here by this weekend, but I'll be busy upgrading my brake system and installing some new struts.

I'll shoot you an email when you can come down, or maybe we'll just hit the track if a test n' tune before then.
