You know.... no offence, but sometimes I think that CT parts guys go to school to learn how to be somewhat less then intelligent. I go looking for NGK plugs, thinking that this should be fairly easy right? Nope. First time I went I forgot the plug number and couldn't remember.... so I asked buddy to look it up. He does.... and comes back with one of the G-power platinum ones. I told him I was SURE that that wasn't what I was looking for, and he proceeds to tell me that it is the only plug that NGK makes for a '97 TSI.

I went back later armed with the NGK number BPREY6EKN (or something like that I lost the paper again and don't want to look it up). Different guy at the counter.... maybe better luck. After about 20min (doh!!) he says that he will have to call me back tomorrow. FINE. So I wait..........

I call him back after supper the next day, talk to yet a thrid guy and am informed that they would have to order them.... 14-16 days. You'da thought I was asking them for a lug nut bearing or something. [Linked Image]

Funny you mention that. I was in CT on Saturday having the same problem. I wasn't able to find <Insert Proper Plug Number Here>. So I asked the parts guy if he had it and he told me he wasn't sure. After 15 mins of monopolizing his time and getting dirty looks from the other customers for doing so, he asked what car I drove. I told him 98 TSi AWD and he said they changed the part num on me. Then he handed me those G-power plugs.

I had to get the guy to look in their NGK cat. so that I could prove that I wasn't making it up.... and they can get them.... just takes awhile.

I just wanted to steer clear of those platnium plugs.... had bad experiances with them before.

Ive been running Platinum and also one range hotter for my 95 n/t and never had any probs. Actually like them better then any other one ever tried.

Dont bother with the parts guys go to the little books by the plugs, wires, filters and such and loook up the car yourself. Easier and u dont have to kill anyone for being stupid [Linked Image]

I got better results going to an independent (Car Quest, UAP or No name) parts store than Crappy if I want NGK Spark Plugs.

I use to have an old Dodge Colt. The thing burned oil like you can't belive. I wanted to try a set of "Hotter Plugs". Went to a Crummy Part Store, asked the Greasy Dude at the counter for a set of plugs one range hotter. His reply was; Burn'n a little oil??? I went; Yup. Left a few minutes later with exactly what I wanted. Try the same at Crappy. Well, I see you guys tried... Way to frustrating.

Ghislain.

The only good thing I have to say about CT was when I bought my K&N they had some in Winnapeg, so he said they would call me when they would be in, he called me 2 days later and said they had my K&N, it was for $39.99 that's the only time I have ever been happy with CT's Customer Service.

Funny how this came up. I just quit my job at CT yesterday!! (I'm so happy!!)
The place sucks and is VERY disorganized, or at least mine is. Some of the parts guys know more about cars than the mechanics, but others are dumber than a mule. You guys just got unlucky I guess. Oh yeah, needless to say, don't EVER take your DSMs to a CT mechanic!!
Just go in there knowing what you want and if one guy doesn't find it someone will. If anyone ever has trouble finding a part... let me know, I'll find it for you no problem.

Platinum plugs and Boost dont get along , stick with NGK V-Power.

Every time I got to CT-I just go to the spark plugs section and get the NGK BP7ES-they always habve them in stock at most CT, but if u ask them for spark plugs for a talon, they specify a different spark plug like platinums.

That's because the actual part number for our spark plugs isn't BPR6ES or BP7ES. There is a different part numbr for the Talon plugs, they have 4 electrodes and are expensive.

That's only for the 2G's Vince. The funny thing is that the dealer-recognized OEM replacements for them are the same as ours. (:

NGK: BPR6ES
Champion: RN9YC
AC Delco: RX42ZY (something like that)

Crappy carry the BPR6EY which is the same as the ES, only with the groove cut in the electrode. I just go to CarQuest with the NGK number.

Actually the 2g's only have two electrodes.... like a +4 plug but without the other two. [Linked Image] I just figured that since CT carried the NGK line that it would be fairly straight forward to get them there... guess that I was wrong, now I just have to wait and see how long they actually take to get to me.... I need new plugs bad.

As for looking in the little books.... I have never seen one in a CT store that has the numbers for the NGK plugs... they have everything else except them.

Ok... this must be a new record... 5 days, and they said two weeks. I don't take back everything but sometimes CT can surprise you... yippie. Maybe better fuel mileage is on the way. [Linked Image]

Troy, I guess it's good I didn't use those 4 electrode plugs.

I was at CT on Sat. to buy new plugs fot St. Thomas and just for fun I asked what the part number was for the ngk spark plugs for the 1g talon, and the number wasn't bpr6es.

But they do have bpr6es and bp7es on the shelf.

What number did they give you? The BPR6ES is right out of the tech manual.

I'm running the AC Delcos in mine right now, and they actually seem to be pretty good. (:

Wow, I know CT is bad but wow those ppl are retarded. I work in the auto department and I have atleast some sense in lookin up the proper plugs... Ive actually ordered a few NGK plugs that we dont even regularly stock, or even have a store product number for just to have incase a woodbye DSM owner came in...

Hell ive talked people (the ones that will listen anyway) out of buying complete exaust system by convincing them to get a performance exaust system somewhere else or in the US since it would work out to only a little more then the CT OEM fit...

Im sick of pedaling CT crap... Its my way of protesting the shitty 7/Hr "wage" we get, despite we all work 10Hr shifts on Sat&Sun...

Ya want friendly service, well I want more money... (if were dicks to you its not personal really... unless theyre old aka. Lifer) If someone treats me like dirt theres more chance of thier part not being "in stock" aka. Im too lazy to go and look for it. If you try to yell at me on the phone, well your getting forwarded to another department (or my fav another store) <-- my personal favorite...

NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER TAKE YOUR CAR INTO CT FOR ANY WORK DONE... I ONLY TAKE MINE IN FOR OIL CHANGES IF I KNOW THE GUY WHO'S DOING IT... WE HAVE BROKEN WINDOWS, RUINED EXPENSIVE RIMS AND EVEN LOST COMPLETE CARS BEFORE !!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS PLEASE !!! IT PAINS ME TO SEE A DSM IN THE SHOP
