I live in Sacramento CA and around here there are no shops with a dyno for AWD cars. So I decided to ask people who know more about my car then I do for a horse power estimate. I own a 1999 Eclipse GSX. It was all stock when I bought it 5 months ago with 19,000 miles. I have since added the following: K&N F.I.P.K., Injen inlet, Greddy upper and lower intercoler piping kit with type S BOV, Manual boost controle by XS (Set at 16.5 PSI) 2.5" down pipe, 2.5" high flow cat, full 2.5" exhause system with Flowmaster 60 series import muffler, rewired stock fuel pump with larger guage wire and a guage pod with Autometer Silvolite boost guage and fuel pressure guage. Does anyone here have similar modifications done on there car that could give me a rough HP number? Thanks ahead of time. I have only been reading this message board for a week but it is by far the best I have found.

Untill I got this car, I belived "There is no replacment for displacment". What was I smoking?

From what you have said, I would probably say between 250hp and 260hp but it is hard to say online. Is that the stock turbo? If so, not much more than that. CHANGE THE STOCKER on the 2g's. Do what I have done. Find a Mustang GT (2000ish) and ask the guy to do a roll on race at about 3000rpm in first and go through the gears. Do that several times. They are 260HP and similar weight to our cars. If you pull him or he pulls you, that will give you the best indication (total geusstimate). I say my car is 300HP because I pulled a 2001 GT several times, easily actually but had a harder time with my friends 320HP Z28 SS. HE got the jump on me but was just barely ahead of my front bumper going into 4th. That is why I put myself in the middle range of the two.

A shop here in Ottawa has a regular dyno and a guy around here with a 97 TSI (around 450 engine HP or so), bought a convertor to make his AWD front wheel drive to go on the dyno. Not sure how much the kit was though but he knows for sure what his car has.

If you really want to know convert it to 2WD and Dyno it. Running other cars such as mustangs will be pretty useless for obvious reasons. However it may give you a good indication on trap speeds you can expect in the quarter.

Based on you mods if I had to guess I'd say 210 or so to the wheels.

Yup, 250HP at the engine equates to around 210 at the wheels. I always say engine HP seeing most people use that, mags etc. Running cars is not useless providing they are similar weight etc. Do not do this against a much smaller car but 2 cars that weigh around 3200lbs (like ours - give or take 100 either way) will give you a good indication on where you stand. The old power to weight ratio. It is not engine size you are comparing but the output of the engine. And do not launch the car because that is driver against driver. Just get a roll and see what happens. Before I got my car modded, I raced my friends 97 Prelude from a roll on to see. After the mods I would race him to see what kind of difference it made and you could clearly tell the increase in HP in mine (he is keeping his stock). Once I got too far from him, I went to a Mustang to test and the same thing, now it is my friends z28 SS, after my next 3 mods, I will get it dyno'd and know I will be close to what I think. This common sense. Weight is everything. It is a very good way to figure it out.

The converting kit was not that cheap, especially for something you will not be doing alot. You will also have to pay the garage labour to do the conversion, run the car on the dyno and than put it back to stock, 2-4 hrs in there. That is expensive and with out fuel management systems, there is no real tuning that can be done to your car. The same as mine which is why mine has not been dyno'd. My next 3 mods will be an fmic, afc and injectors, menaing my mechanic will be able to duno tune the car. Right now, he said wasting money to just say that your car is 210hp at the wheels.

Just Sacramento, California, eh? You're a lot closer to an AWD dyno than we are up here. (:

See if you can get a listing of a shop that has a DynoPack dyno. That'll handle your AWD, and it's cheap enough that more shops (in California, anyway) are getting them.

But I'd agree with Tom. I wouldn't bother to dyno mine until I had a much larger turbo and upgrades done to it... (:

Well last time I checked Mustangs didn't have AWD, this alone will throw everything off. Nevermind the gearing and CD of each car are different.

He wants a ROUGH ESTIMATE only WHICH MEANS CHEAP, NO MONEY SPENT. How can you dothat? Roll on racing. Yes I agree which is why I said, "do not do it from a launch but from a roll on." (read above again) Gearing, traction, auto, 5spd........ all play big roles in it but a stock GT from 3000RPM will do fine. I have done it with a guy many times. That is a good indication as to where he will be. It could never tell you the exact amount (how could it?) but to tell me it will tell him nothing about his car when they weigh similar and most likely have similar outputs? Believe what you want. I do it, and it works for me. Remember, he wants a guess. looking at his mods, hard to tell on paper. BYE BYE

Weigh your car, go run the 1/4. Plug your MPH and weight into teh HP calculator. Now you've got a rough estimate

Thanks for the info everyone. I didn't even know you could convert an AWD to front wheel drive. But I think I'll take your advise and stay away from the dyno untill I do some more modifications, mods that can actually be adjusted on a dyno. A rough estamate is all I was looking for, so around 210 at the wheels is a air guess I'm thinking. I'll leave it a that and when I do any more modifications I'll keep you guys updated. Thanks again.

I think one of the best and cheapest ways to get a really close HP estimate is to buy a G-tech. It's 139$ you can order it from JEGS or Summit racing online and it claims accuracy within 3 hp to the wheels. It also tells you your 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. Very handy little device plugs into your cigarette lighter.

I'd give a little higher than that.... around 270 at the flywheel pretty much max for the T2Small.
